Publisher's summary

Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy that J.R.R. Tolkien created to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues". From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume in the trilogy, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.

In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe – hobbits, elves, and wizards – step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

What an Incredible Journey

This book has brought me to so many good places in thought and I can't even begin to describe how. All I can say is that you need to listen/read it and begin to be enveloped in beautiful admiration and wonder.

obvious classic

One of my favorite authors. King of fables and fantasy. Personally Hobbit was my favorite. Still LOTR is still a very good series. Highly recommended.

Rob Inglis does justice to Lord of the Rings

What made the experience of listening to The Fellowship of the Ring the most enjoyable?

Inglis is a brilliant speaker for this. He does a wonderful job of distinguishing the characters and he is able to to insert emotion into the story. He also is able to sing the numerous songs that appear in the story in such a way that the listener is able to get the full value of the music.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fellowship of the Ring?

The chapter "The Bridge of Khazad-Dum" contains many memorable scenes. I will not say more as not to risk spoilers.

Still amazing!

This would be the first audiobook version Of the Fellowship that I have listened too. I have also read the book several times and seen all versions of film. This tale, and those that follow, are still the pinnacle of fantasy storytelling, in my opinion. One of the few books I have ever read more than once, and one I plan to listen to again.

Bombadil is only a small problem.

I don't care for the side story, but the rest is pretty interesting. Coming from a watcher of the movies, I probably would have liked some of the extra stuff from the book, even some of Bombadil, but overall I feel he was a major distraction.

Amazing work! Better than the movies!

This was an amazing book that I wanted to listen to for a long time due to my love for the Lord of the Rings movies. However, I found that I enjoyed the books much more than the movies due to the detail.
