Publisher's summary

Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy that J.R.R. Tolkien created to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues". From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume in the trilogy, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.

In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe – hobbits, elves, and wizards – step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

Absolute Classic

While rereading The Fellowship of the Ring it became apparent to me the impact this work has had on subsequent works of fiction. There are so many themes that are incorporated into modern fictional works that originated in LOTR. This is a truly amazing read and worth multiple rereads.

slow start ...worth the wait

this was a struggle and my third attempt but I did it and it was 100% worth it. definitely got lost at a few times and skimmed through Tom's part...(what's with all the singing???) but it's a classic cornerstone in literature for a reason. READ IT!

A forever favorite of mine.

Has a very complex and deep storyline. The narrator does an amazing job. Changing voices, and the loudness as appropriate and does a great job with the song part of it.

Loved it! Rob Inglis does an amazing job!

One of my favorite books and my favorite narrator. Rob Inglis ability to change voices while gracefully flowing with the story seems effortless. I highly suggest "The Hobbit" to start with Inglis.

I am so happy that Audible has this series

When I was a teenager I read this series, talked about it at school and had all my friends read it too. Now I am doing the same thing for this Audio Book 35 years later. Thanks Audible.
It is a reading that does the amazing book justice. the Narrator even sings the songs. AWESOME

Incredible Book!

This book was incredible and has great narration. It is surprisingly easy to listen to, and understand what is occurring. I find it very surprising how different this book is to the Fellowship of the Ring movie. I only wished it explored the Shire and its people more thoroughly instead of jumping right to the journey. Also, I wish it was longer. Besides these personal wishes, this book was incredible!!!

A solid pillar in the foundation of Fantasy

This is an absolute must read, unquestionably a staple in Fantasy literature. It is both timeless and immensely satisfying. One of it's greatest appeals is the massive world building and language building that is so lauded today among other bestsellers. Another important distinction is how although it is old, it does not feel "dated" as many books from the time and even later feel. All the tropes of our genre we as Fantasy readers have come to love and expect are here without the possibility of being redundant or derivitative since many are seen here for the first time.
