Publisher's summary

Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy that J.R.R. Tolkien created to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues". From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume in the trilogy, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.

In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe – hobbits, elves, and wizards – step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

Great narration of a beloved classic.

And w his singing it was easier to absorb the lyrics of the various songs. Well done!

Beautifully narrated; deftly performed

The narration was just perfect. Couldn't have been happier with the ease of listening it provided, especially for such a sense tapestry of imagery.

Fantastic narration!

Apart from the singing (only because I don't care for it anyways) this was a beautifully done recording by the narrator. I felt Rob Inglis embodied the tone of the story perfectly. I love reading Tolkiens work, this is the first time I had listened to one if the LOTR books and it did not disappoint.

Incredible

I haven't read Tolkien's works in a very long time. Listening to The Fellowship of the Ring brings back some very old and dear memories. Tolkien is a classic for a reason: his works are nothing short of masterpieces.

Classic done particularly well!

Having read this classic way back in 91, I was curious as to how well it would translate into audio book form. I was not disappointed! I honestly don’t think it could have been done any better! I’m starting the Two Towers now and I’m sure it will be just as wonderful!

Fellowship of the Ring

Great story by a master writer & linguist. Reader was very good, but the singing would have been better if done by someone who could sing!
