Publisher's summary

Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy that J.R.R. Tolkien created to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues". From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume in the trilogy, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.

In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe – hobbits, elves, and wizards – step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

Finally got into LotR

As an avid fantasy genre reader who loved the LOTR movies, I have tried to get into the books many times. The writing style and many songs had me pulling my hair out by the halfway point of Fellowship each time, and I'd give up in shame.

I finally thought to look into the audio book form recently, and the narration just made the experience for me. The songs are made alive, and I quite enjoyed them rather than trudging through them. I even loved Tom Bombadil this time!

I have listened to about thirty audio books, and this narrator is now one of my favorites, on par to Roy Dotrice who reads the ASOIAF series. Overall, I recommend this to LOTR lovers and those not as sure they appreciate the books!

Amazing

This book is long, but it is well worth the listen. It is amazing to see the movie and then see how the author originally had it written.

love the details and history.

love the details and history that the movie left out.
I would recommend watching the movie before reading the book or else the movie may be a disappointment. not because it's not good but because 3 hours just can't capture the true feal of this story.

A Classic But

As a Harry Potter fan and a fan of the Lord of the Ring movies, I thought I'd enjoy this a lot more. Felt a bit tedious. I think I'll read the next two books when I have time.

Epic Narration

Narrator does an amazing job bringing the characters to life and does very well singing the parts which require it.
