Publisher's summary

Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy that J.R.R. Tolkien created to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues". From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume in the trilogy, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.

In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe – hobbits, elves, and wizards – step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

Whether you're a longtime fan of the books, a lover of the movies, or totally new to The Lord of the Rings, it's likely you've got some questions about the major characters. One of the three Hobbits who set out from the Shire alongside Frodo, Merry comes into his own during the War of the Ring and plays a small but essential part in the larger story. Merry, like his dear friend and comrade Pippin, is proof that no one is ever too small to change the world.

Very Nice story telling, but some audio issues.

If you could sum up The Fellowship of the Ring in three words, what would they be?

Light, Dark, Friendship

Any additional comments?

When the hobbits enter the town of Bree (the Prancing Pony) the audio track is HORRIBLE. It sounds like a woman is carrying on a conversation in the next room while the the story is being read. It's faint, but can be heard with headphones and is quite distracting. This background conversation ends when the hobbits leave Bree. The rest of the reading does not have any background noise problems.

The classic reading of a classic story.

I have listened to many readings of LOTR, and the Rob Inglis unabridged is the best hands down. So glad to see it back at Audible.

My Favorite Book!

I am a huge Tolkien fan and Fellowship of the Ring is my favorite book, with perhaps the exception of The Silmarillion. A great audio performance by Rob Inglis!

I Love a Classic!

Where does The Fellowship of the Ring rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This telling of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic story would have to rank in my top ten. The reader's voice is just awesome.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene would have to be when they first meet Aragorn. Again, just the reader's voice is great.

Unabridged and Wonderful

The performance, particularly the songs is unparalleled. Correct accents and inflections of proper names. should delight the biggest Tolkien nerd you know.

Great story

Well read and not one of the new versions of the book.

I have 3 version of the books this seems to have some material that is not in some, or the reader made it seem more alive than the last time I read the books.

Fantastic

After listening to a book with such eloquent speech, my own words seem inadequate. Of course, it is well known that this is a great story. I would like to mention the actual delivery of the story by the reader of the audiobook, Rob Inglis.

It is hard to imagine anyone doing a better job at reading this book. His delivery is perfect. He is a great voice actor. It is usually easy to tell which of the many characters he is voicing based on his impressions. His natural voice and accent seem to be a perfect fit for the genre, as well.
