Publisher's summary

Benjamin Button was literally born an old man. He lived a backwards life, for his body grew younger as the years passed him by. Come and listen to the original, unabridged story by F. Scott Fitzgerald which inspired the movie.

LOL Funny

I must OBJURGATE with anyone who does not find this hilarious. As is typical of the time of the writing we never hear from the woman who had the baby or old man. The attempts of the father to raise his old man son like a kid is just funny. B.J. does a great job with great timing in his reading. Get this one just for the fun of it.

good story, bad performance

classic story, but the fake British accent of the reader is insufferable. couldn't make it through.

But why?

This was an entertainingly weird story. It was very much like one of those fabulous old Twilight Zone TV show episodes.

The difference, though, is that the Twilight Zone episodes always seemed to have a point. I couldn't see the point of this story.

Still, it was interesting and entertaining.

A Good Listen

Any additional comments?

Once you move past the absurdity of the concept and the preconceived ideas that you might have from watching the movie, this was solid story. It was funny and intriguing, while being short enough to listen to from start to finish without dedicating a whole afternoon or evening to it. Also, BJ Harrison's narration is spot on. This is definitely worth a listen.

Classic

Any additional comments?

F. Scott Fitzgerald clearly knows how to hit hard in a story, and as he shows in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, he can also pull you along with simply a good story.

Interesting reflection on the phases of our lives

B.J. Harrison's reading of this unusual story was excellent. He really reflects emotion and humor very well! F. Scott Fitzgerald's story was most unusual and very funny at times, poignant at others. This makes you glad that this phenomenon doesn't really happen! It also really makes you think about how differently we act at different ages. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know how close it is. This is a nice short book, odd though it may be, and Fitzgerald's lovely writing makes this worth a listen. (Gatsby is a must, though! Jake Gyllenhaal's performance is brilliant, here on Audible!)

Movie is better than the book

I should be fair, and that is to say the book is an original idea that had so much more potential. That is what the movie capitalized on. In addition, the book is a short story, so was limited in length as to what it could accomplish. The result was a quick rush through the events of Benjamin Button.

The story is dated, and the mores of that era come through. It is chauvinistic in tone and references to the south and pre-war slavery appear, and without apology. Be warned if you have limited tolerance for these issues.

Get this if you are curious (pardon the pun) as to the genesis of the movie plot, but don't invest the time or money if you are looking for more.

Alright... I Guess

This story is actually kind of dumb and not as charming as it thinks it is. Luckily it's short.

Not Same as the Movie, but Good

Any additional comments?

Well written and brilliant for it's length. It is a story of a man who is born old and ages in reverse. But it differs quite a bit from the movie.
