Publisher's summary

On the eve of his marriage to the beautiful Mercedes, having that very day been made captain of his ship, the young sailor Edmond Dantès is arrested on a charge of treason, trumped up by jealous rivals. Incarcerated for many lonely years in the isolated and terrifying Chateau d'If near Marseille, he meticulously plans his brilliant escape and extraordinary revenge.

Of all the "masked avengers" and "caped crusaders" in literature, The Count of Monte Cristo is at once the most daring and the most vulnerable. Alexandre Dumas (père), master storyteller, takes us on a journey of adventure, romance, intrigue, and ultimately, redemption.

Simply brilliant!

Of course the story is classic and timeless. Dumas writes brilliantly and the story still entertains today. The performance is the most unbelievable I have ever experienced. I am sorry that I have ever given 5 stars after listening to this performance. Multiple personalities, languages and dialects are effortlessly navigated to make the audio experience sublime. Enjoy!

Bill Homewood is an acting genius!

This reading matches all the grandeur and intellectual virtuosity of Dumas’ masterpiece. Mr. Homewood sensitively and intelligently created the entire diversity of each character: from their accents, intonations, quirks of character...it was a marvelous tribute to Dumas.

I was sad to have it end and have immediately bookmarked all of Mr. Homewood’s other audible recordings.

Bravo! Brava!

My new favorite book

At first i wondered if i would be able to sit through the full 60 odd hours of the story, but all the twists and promises the story kept making had me gripped through the whole thing. it was a long slow path to feeling the satsifaction of all it all but it was more than worth every second

Wait and Hope

Loved this story. Such a classic, storytelling like this is rare these days. The movie doesn't do the book justice. take the time and enjoy this book.

Rum as an energy drink

This book being such a classic, I imagine the listener is already expecting a most fascinating French take on the Odyssey, taking place in the times during and after the slow fall from grace of Napoleon Bonaparte.
The book itself sort of features the narrator as yet another voice, in such a masterful way that I can only imagine how good the original version in French might be. The audio book's narrator also does a great job, and it is hard to imagine how a movie or series adaptation could do him justice.
The book is long but so entertaining that it is difficult to notice the passage of time while reading/listening.
