Publisher's summary

On the eve of his marriage to the beautiful Mercedes, having that very day been made captain of his ship, the young sailor Edmond Dantès is arrested on a charge of treason, trumped up by jealous rivals. Incarcerated for many lonely years in the isolated and terrifying Chateau d'If near Marseille, he meticulously plans his brilliant escape and extraordinary revenge.

Of all the "masked avengers" and "caped crusaders" in literature, The Count of Monte Cristo is at once the most daring and the most vulnerable. Alexandre Dumas (père), master storyteller, takes us on a journey of adventure, romance, intrigue, and ultimately, redemption.

Clearly a classic

The story was so compelling and well narrated that I often changed my normal habits to allow time to listen.

Mouth noises can be almost intolerable at times.

Amazing story and great performance at its core, but the wet smacking and mouth noises are really, really bad. I listened with earbuds and had to turn down the volume to the point where it was almost inaudible to make it past some parts where it was worst. Trust me, it will disgust you.

Masterful Performance of a delicious story.

What a mesmerizing tale. Truly worthy of classic status. I was sorry it ended. I cannot say enough about the reader who brought this book and all its characters to life. I will look for other books he has read.

Wow

I’ve always wanted to read this book but it was so long. I never had time. Audible made it an absolute treasure to listen to! Such depth and morality are
not usually present in books today. It was sweet to enjoy the triumphs and woes of the characters who are now indelibly impressed on my mind.

Favorite book

It has everything you could want in a story, written so well in the mid 1800s that it still stands up. A must read, and an even better listen to in this app! Wonderful!!

Most excellent narration.. but not on earbuds

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was long but worth it. The parts that seemed unimportant were eventually important and worth the time. Bill Homewood was excellent except.. his microphone may have been too good. You could consistently hear some noise from his tongue between sentences that was maddening. If you listen in your car or on a speaker then you won’t notice it. Just don’t listen on earbuds or it’ll drive you crazy.
