Any additional comments?

The Complete Wizard of Oz is missing information on which stories and chapters are in which parts. I took the time to listen to and write them down for others to reference. I am going to add this to my feedback but it would be best if this was added to the audio books. Please excuse any mistakes. I have listed the stories contained in each part and their audio chapters. A hint is to look at the chapters lasting less than a minute. These contain the title and introductions to new stories. Part 1 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz audio ch 1-26. The Marvelous Land of Oz audio ch 27-40. Part 2 The Marvelous Land of Oz continued audio ch 1-14. The Woggle Bug Book audio chapters 15-17. Ozma of Oz ch 18-end. Part 3 The Road to Oz audio ch 1-27The Emerald City of Oz audio ch 28-endPart 4 The Emerald City of Oz audio ch 1-20. The Patchwork Girl of Oz audio ch 21-endPart 5 The Patchwork Girl of Oz continued audio ch 1-11. Little Wizard Stories of Oz audio ch 12-18. Ticktock of Oz audio audio ch 19-endPart 6 Ticktock of Oz audio ch 1-7. The Scarecrow of Oz audio ch 8-33. Rinkitink of Oz audio ch 34-end. Part 7 Rinkitink of Oz audio ch 1-21. The Lost Princess of Oz audio ch 22-end. Part 8 The Lost Princess of Oz audio ch 1-11. The Tin Woodman of Oz audio ch 12-37. The Magic of Oz audio ch 38-end. Part 9 The Magic of Oz audio ch 1-24. Poorly edited, but a very good price.

I am not yet finished with this and will update it once I have completed all of the stories, but I want to leave a review of my early impressions.

The reader is consistent and fairly accurate, if a bit low energy. If it were edited properly, I'd give the performance a solid 3-4 stars.

Unfortunately, the editing leaves a lot to be desired. In the first 2 books there are multiple instances where the reader made a mistake and re-read a section but the error was not cut out of the recording. The first couple of times I thought it was a problem with chapter chunking, but there have been several which are clear cases of simple bad editing.

Additionally there is a problem of finding beginning and ends of books. The easiest way to locate them is to find chapters with lengths under 20 seconds. But, if you're looking for a specific book you have to guess which part it's in (there are 10, I'll put a list at the end for reference, which I found in another review and reformatted here).

Calling this 22 "books" is misleading, as many of these are actually short works by Baum. But, some of these I've never seen in audio format before, so it's nice to include them. There are really more like 15 books here.

I would like to see this be rereleased with better editing, but I can't really complain about 91 hours of audio with minor problems for the price of one credit :-)

One last little complaint: The cover photo. The slippers are silver in the books. Not ruby.

22 books in 10 files with NO list whatsoever!!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

It's absolutely ridiculous --- they don't even tell you the names of the 22 books included anywhere! What is worse -- in order to find a book... you have to know to look for it... and then search the 10 downloads for the book you want. (Which I suppose you should psychically divine before scanning the 10 downloads to find it!! VERY UNPROFFESSIONAL, AUDIBLE!! The least you could do is list which stories are in which download!!

6-month long enjoyment

My 8-year old daughter and myself have been enjoying these stories for 6 to 8 months during our road trips. Narration is excellent, but there are editing mistakes throughout, where the same sentences are repeated, as other reviewers have noticed.

The collection is lacking the table of contents, so here it is complete with all chapters listed. You may notice that it is different from the same posted by other reviewers, but my is 100% correct for the download I received.

Table of Contents

Chapter numbers as they appear in the audio book. These are not the book chapters in the text. (A) denotes major book number in the series (1 to 15), (B) denotes the book number in the collection (1 to 22). Unfortunately the tabulation cannot be preserved in the preview, so (A) is the number after the chapter numbers, and (B) is the last number on the line.

Part 1: (A) (B)
1-26 : 1 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz 1
27-41 : 2 The Marvelous Land of Oz 2

Part 2:
42-52 : 2 The Marvelous Land of Oz (continued from Part 1) 2
53-55 : * The Woggle Bug Book 3
56-76 : 4 Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz 4
77-82: 3 Ozma of Oz 5

Part 3:
83-99: 3 Ozma of Oz (continued from Part 2) 5
100-122 5 The Road to Oz 6

Part 4:
123-125 : 5 The Road to Oz (continued from Part 3) 6
126-157 : 6 The Emerald City of Oz 7
158-162: 7 The Patchwork Girl of Oz 8

Part 5:
163-187: 7 The Patchwork Girl of Oz (continued from Part 4) 8
188-194: * Little Wizard Stories of Oz (6):
189: The Cowardly Lion and the Hungry Tiger 9
190: Little Dorothy and Toto 10
191: Ticktock and the Nome King 11
192: Ozma and the Little Wizard 12
193: Jack Pumpkinhead and the Sawhorse 13
194: The Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman 14

195-203: 8 Ticktock of Oz 15

Part 6:
204-221: 8 Ticktock of Oz (continued from Part 5) 15
222-243: 9 The Scarecrow of Oz 16

Part 7:
244-247: 9 The Scarecrow of Oz (continued from Part 6) 16
248-273: 10 Rinkitink in Oz 17

Realistic reading, flubs and all.

Good narration but there were numerous points where the narrator repeated a word or phrase that I am surprised the sound editing didn't remove for the final product.

Thumbnails need Titles

At a minimum I wish there were titles such as "part __ of __" on each of the thumbnail images. With 10 downloads for this collection and no chapter titles how are you supposed to figure out where to go next? Pulling up each one to then listen to figure it out is not very reasonable.

Absolutely in love with this collection

What did you love best about The Complete Wizard of Oz Collection?

I had no idea there were so many books in the Wizard of Oz collection. This has been a very enjoyable book and one of the best purchases I've made to date. I really like L. Frank Baum's vivid imagination, and how he brings everything to life. This is something that my 10 year old son and I can listen to, together.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course, Dorothy is my favorite character. Mainly because she's familiar in a vast line of newly found people, fairies, talking animals, etc.

Which character – as performed by Eric Vincent – was your favorite?

Eric Vincent has done a wonderful job - It must be difficult for a narrator to have such a wide variety of characters to portray. From a small girl, to a magical talking saw horse, to Santa Claus...I honestly can't pick my favorite of his performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It would be impossible to listen to this book all in one sitting. It is very long and took me over a month to even get to the halfway mark. I enjoyed listening to this everyday during my commute.

Any additional comments?

Best bang for the buck on this purchase. There are so many stories included, that you'll keep busy with this for a very long time.

Perfect for Traveling

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to friends who enjoy audiobooks. I purchased the entire series for a recent trip to Minnesota because the flight would allow an uninterrupted block of time to really get into the stories.

What other book might you compare The Complete Wizard of Oz Collection to and why?

I would say Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass would be in the same fantastical realm.

Have you listened to any of Eric Vincent’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to other performances by Eric Vincent and I would say this is one of his better outings. The amount of material is daunting (`85 hours!) and he keeps the story interesting with different character voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I've not listened to the entire series yet so I prefer to wait to pick a particular moment.

Any additional comments?

While there have been lots of negative comments about no index, I found the lack of an index a non-issue. I began listening from the beginning and have been happily skipping down the yellow brick road with my new friends!

Total Confusion

As much as I enjoy the Oz books I was disappointed in this collection.
As a child, I received the first 10 Oz books for Christmas and fell in love with all the wonderful characters.
I have not finished the collection and probably will not. The books are out of order with no rhyme nor reason for it. All I can figure is the person who collected the stories together did it as a job assignment, not because he, or she, wanted to do so.

The reader is easy to listen to even though there are spots where he stumbles over a word and either repeats the word or even the entire sentence. I find this adds to the experience as I remember my mother doing the same while reading to the sibs and me.

It is my hope that some one will reorganize this collection and add book and chapter titles.

The most complete, fascinating journey through OZ

This is the most complete series of the L Frank Baum (and family), The Wonderful Wizard of OZ stories. Besides the reference of this book leading to one of the most watched movies of all times, it was interesting to hear about the full backgrounds of these well-known characters in addition to many, many more that joined in the journies throughout OZ.

This was a fascinating trip of imagination through time to be enjoyed by those of all ages. The special notes and comments from Mr. Baum and family to some of the many letters they received about the characters really personalized the journey for many readers. A wonderful fairytale. The 91 hours of OZ stories kept me busy during my summer and is overall the best deal for any book in my Audible.com library. (Special note: There have been many political symbolisms of the OZ characters over the years and one with an inquiring mind can easily research these theories).
