Fiery-maned Jabez Wilson brings his case before Holmes, complaining how he lost a job promised to "all red-headed men who are sound in body and mind and above the age of 21 years". Even Holmes, self-consciously stoic by nature, can't help but laugh. Nevertheless, something's amiss and adventure awaits. Performer Walter Zimmerman - the audiobook authority on all things Arthur Conan Doyle - shines as the jovial John Watson, always brimming with confounded amazement in Zimmerman's capable hands, but perhaps even more excitable given the ridiculous intrigue featured here.
