"A postwar continuation of Cannery Row, [Sweet Thursday is] every bit as juicy and relaxed as the original. . . . This is comedy--bawdy, sentimental, and good fun.” The Atlantic

In Monterey, on the California coast, Sweet Thursday is what they call the day after Lousy Wednesday, which is one of those days that is just naturally bad. Returning to the scene of Cannery Row, the weedy lots and junk heaps and flophouses of Monterey, John Steinbeck once more brings to life the denizens of a netherworld of laughter and tears--from Fauna, new headmistress of the local brothel, to Hazel, a bum whose mother must have wanted a daughter.

"An emphatic and clear-cut statement of Steinbeck's greatest theme: the common bonds of humanity and love which make goodness and happiness possible."--The New Republic

Jerry Farden’s narration makes the experience twice as beautiful. I liked cannery Row more but this book was also very pleasant to listen to

Great book, perfect narration

Steinbeck's writing is wonderful. A great slice of America that is often not seen nor appreciated.

If you like Cannery Row, you will love this

As indicated in the description, it's a Cannery Row Part2.. and what a part it is. Adding love and.romance painted on the canvas of stellar performance of the "usual gang". Mastery of storytelling and writer skills are exquisite. .. definitely one of my beat books.of all times

Absolute delight ...

I know I’m partial having spent most of my life in Steinbeck Country exploring all the sites in his books but I love his character development and his ability to make Cannery Row come alive

My personal favorite Steinbeck novel

...how Sweet Thursday is! This novel by the great John Steinbeck is essentially a continuation of his classic "Cannery Row." You would not need to listen to "Cannery Row" in order to enjoy this book, but l would highly recommend it. Doc, Hazel (my favorite for his weighing of ethical dilemmas), Mack and the boys, the denizens of the Row all come alive in this book. Mr. Garden does a magnificent job with this American classic.

While waiting for Friday many of forget...
