Leaf by Niggle
This story recounts the strange adventures of the painter Niggle who set out to paint the perfect tree. But he sensed that he would be snatched away from his work long before it was finished, if indeed it could ever be finished in this world. For it was in another and brighter place that Niggle found his tree finished, and learned that it was indeed a real tree, a true part of creation.

"A haunting and successful demonstration of the qualities of faerie." (The New York Times)
I enjoy reading fantasy, crime and mystery thrillers, as well as historical novels.
Yes I would definitely listen again as I enjoyed the humour and well it is written by J.R.R. Tolkien
It is a shame that Tales from the Perilous Realm were sold separately as putting them all together as they are in the book and EBook would be more affordable especially as the stories are only short. Still a couple of great stories by Tolkien and well narrated by Derek Jacobi. Great bedtime stories for children and adults alike.
"Moving and uplifting tales and beautifully read"
Highly recommended - two highly original tales with a message if one wants to take one and enchanting imagery. Derek Jacobi does a wonderful job in reading these and seems to capture the intent of the narrative and give a suitable voice to it.
There is something about the writing, enhanced by the reading, that conjures up deep imagery - a dream-like imagery in my case. Whilst it is strong, rather like trying to describe a dream I find that I can't put it into words.- but very good.
I have listened to this a few times in the car: I only put it on when I know that I'll have time to listen to the whole story without having to stop.
