Very abridged, but wonderfully read

I bought this version behause it was narrated by Helena Bonham Carter and I truly enjoyed listening to her reading of it. Only too late did I discover that the book was abridged, and very drastically so. The main points of the story are all there, but not much more. This is the reason for the low story score. So much of the magic is gone, of Colin's development into a normal boy, of the transformation of the garden. It was a good reminder of the original book, but not nearly enough.

Great narration and a classic story

What did you love best about Secret Garden?

The innocence in the children's relationships, and the garden's beauty and it's magics.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character has always been Dickon.

Any additional comments?

I love everything about this audio-book except when I ordered it, I didn't pay much attention and didn't realize it was the abridged version! I love this narrator, but I have yet to find her narrating the unabridged version yet. If I do find her, her version would definitely be the one I buy.

It’s abridged!

It never said that it would be abridged on the page where you buy the book. But it’s very heavily abridged. I never would’ve bought the book had I known it was abridged. I do enjoy however hearing Helena Bonham Carter reading it.

An ageless story

I've read this book every few years since I was 11. A brilliant and beautiful story about childhood, nature and belief. Always makes me want to run away to the moor.

Helena Bonham Carter does a lovely job reading. Adore HBC more now than ever.

exquisite

a great parable, story, about the power of perspective! there is magic in this universe, only we must believe! we must open our hearts, and it will seep in, slowly at first, perhaps, and as our hearts steadily open, or haltingly, at first, eventually the magic will flood in and overflow and slosh out into others and bless them! this is the Holy Spirit, only believe, only open, and we will never be the same!

Beautiful warm narration!

Boham-Carter’s warm voice and captivating reading made it a wonderful experience! I was re-reading the book so that I can read it to my kids, and I was so right to pick this version! I took me back to my childhood dreaming readings!
