Who has not dreamed of life on an exotic isle, far away from civilization? Here is the novel that has inspired countless imitations by lesser writers, none of which equal the power and originality of Defoe's famous book. Robinson Crusoe, set ashore on an island after a terrible storm at sea, is forced to make do with only a knife, some tobacco, and a pipe.
He learns how to build a canoe, make bread, and endure endless solitude. That is, until, 24 years later, when he confronts another human being. First published in 1719, Robinson Crusoe has been praised by such writers as James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Samuel Johnson as one of the greatest novels in the English language.

The 3rd Child
Around third grade we are taught to pay attention to PUNCTUATION!!! This guy Alan Munro hacks every sentence with his unbearable illiteracy!! Sounds like this guy re-punctuates every sentence so he can read every one in 3-4 parts making a beautiful text a confusing bunch of random words!! He's terrible!! Listen to a demo first!!! My eight year old niece LITERALLY reads better than this guy!!!! I deserve a refund for such an insult!!! I will not buy any books read by this yo-yo again!! I say yo-yo because he READS UP and then down then with rAndoM inflections!!
I could only get through the first two chapters of this book with this narrator. I did not enjoy the narrator's style of reading. too many pauses mid sentence. I felt like it was a robot reading. It was painful to listen to. I had to stop this version and purchase the book with another narrator.
Good story but the narrator's manner of reading is very annoying with odd halting throughout the reading that keeps the story from flowing.
"Dull, almost monotone reading"
The book is great, but it is spoilt by a dull reader. I will certainly not buy anything read by this narrator again.
Lots. It is a super book.
Having it read by someone with more life in his voice.
A different narrator would bring the book to life.
"Interesting Book but Meh!"
This book was on a list of must reads... maybe it was just the narrator but this was a bit of a struggle. One day i might try again with a physical copy.
The parrot.... In fact I think Castaway's Wilson was a more interesting character than Man-Friday.
While Alan Munro has a nice voice to listen to (Thus having more than 1 star), I found his cadence to be annoying at best. It seemed like this was his first read though and he might as well have been reading a shopping list with lack of passion he put into this.
"classic story, not particularlly well told, not pa"
a classic story the new he was crap but I'm glad I got through it
