Many are skeptical of so-called "near-death experiences." Given his neuroscience background, Dr. Eben Alexander III was one of those skeptics - until he had an experience of his own. In Proof of Heaven, Alexander details his terrifying but fascinating ride through a life threatening illness and hospitalization.
He drifts in and out of consciousness throughout the book, thus shifting the narrative from chapter-to-chapter. At times he describes the interactions he has with his doctors and family at his hospital bedside, while at other times he articulates the enlightening visions and encounters he experiences in another state of consciousness. By the time he has made it through this near-death experience, he has undergone a thorough transformation from nonbeliever to believer in an afterlife.

It seems this is part of an 'unauthorized' book summaries. At the beginning the book recommends you get the full book first and use this as a guide, which is ridiculous IMO.
The bigger problem is that it is repetitive, shallow and soulless. Everything is repeated twice. A summary of a chapter and then a summary of the summary. There is not enough detail, there is no flow in the story.
Most importantly, there is no emotion. I got the gist of what the full book is about. but now it is ruined for me. I don't have any interest in the full book.
Don't waste your time
Interesting, inspiring, uplifting.
The fact that this happened to a respected surgeon and we are able to have his views on life after death.
