Publisher's summary

Charles Bingley, a wealthy young gentleman, has moved into Netherfield Park manor, which causes much excitement in the village of Longbourn, especially among the five unmarried daughters of the Bennet household. Despite many romatic complications, the overall tone of this classic novel is, as Jane Austen described it, “light and bright, and sparkling”.

Reasonable price, beautiful rendering

What did you love best about Pride and Prejudice?

I love the beauty of the language and the simplicity of the story. It is the timeless theme of dealing with life's obstacles and appreciating the everyday blessings.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elizabeth, of course. She is witty, kind, compassionate, and best of all, willing to admit her mistakes and need for improvement.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene is when Elizabeth is giving Darcy her theory of why he was attracted to her in spite of himself.

Any additional comments?

If you want to see the best movie rendition, buy the Colin Firth one. It is almost verbatim, (and it definitely has the best Mr. Collins of any of the movies I have seen.)

What did you like best about this story?

Classic, read in advance to Death at Pemberly by PD James

What about Helen Lisanti’s performance did you like?

Steady

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Scandal shakes small English parish

The story and delivery was awesome

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I was transported to another place and time. It was greatly entertaining.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I can't pick a favorite because although I liked different things about each character they each had traits that I admired. The father's dry humor was hilarious. Jane's sweetness and ability to see the greater good in every situation and person is something I strive for. Elizabeth's ability to be so quick on her feet and opinionated at a time when women's opinions were not valued. ( Especially being so young with little affluence) and Mr. Darcy for being a man of little words and big actions.

What about Helen Lisanti’s performance did you like?

I liked her accent. She was able to portray personality of the different character's through her changes in voice. After a couple of chapters, I knew who was speaking by merely listening to the way she spoke.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Courtship at it's finest, less is more.

Any additional comments?

This audio book lifted my spirits and I had tears of joy in my eyes when it ended. I think all young women entering the world of dating could benefit by listening to or reading this book.

Can't Go Wrong With This One

What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said countless times before? All I can add is another endorsement of this performance which is an excellent value. Sample all others of course, but rest assured that this version is a steal. One somewhat odd fact that might be of note is that this book is not broken up; it's one big file. As its chapters are properly indexed, this means for once that your player will actually indicate Chapter 61 when you reach Chapter 61; rather novel I thought....

The Best of the Best

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Have been recommending this book to others for 50 years. Read it about once a year. Has been my favorite since high school

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pride and Prejudice?

Every part of the wonderful and complex story has its place in P&P

Have you listened to any of Helen Lisanti’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no I have not

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

they did and the tag line is different in every one. I have seen possibly every production (film) since 1932. the best is the 1995 BBC production.

Excellent Read by Helen Lisanti

Would you listen to Pride and Prejudice again? Why?

Absolutely. This is one of the greatest pieces of literature ever. Jane Austen is an amazing writer and Helen Lisanti really brings the story life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Oh I can't decide. I like so many of the characters. I suppose if I had to choose I like Charles Bingley and a close second would be Mr. Bennet. Even as I sit here thinking about it, I might change it so I suppose I can't really decide ha!

Which scene was your favorite?

I like so many of the scenes really. I suppose if I had to choose it would be Elizabeth Bennet's initial visit to Pemberley.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well as much as possible. It was an excellent travelling companion for a cross country drive between Missouri and Florida.

An excellent reading of my favourite book....

I originally bought this reading of "Pride and Prejudice" simply because it was the cheapest available and also it was one of my first purchases of an Audible book. However, I have to say I think it was an excellent choice as Helen Lisanti is a first class narrator and I have listened again and again to this well loved classic. She does have some difficulty with the male characterizations but she improves as the book progresses. I have since gone back and sampled the other readings of "Pride and Prejudice" and have only found one reading I think may be better than Helen Lisanti's and that is the one by Josephine Bailey. However, it is a much more expensive version..... This one, I think, is a bargain and I recommend it highly

Good book, big file.

This will never be my favorite book, but it is a great audio book. First off it is the cheapest unabridged edition of Pride and Prejudice that I noticed on Audible, second the narrator has a very pleasant voice, and a good delivery. If this is amongst your favorite books you might want to go to a higher end version, but if you are just interested in reading the book, I don't think you can go wrong with this one. The only problem (if you want to call it that) is that this book comes in one big 13 hour section instead of being divided into two smaller sections. This was not a big problem for me, but if you have a slow internet connection it might be.
