Publisher's summary

"His perfect indifference, and your pointed dislike, make it so delightfully absurd!"

Pride and Prejudice has delighted generations of readers with its unforgettable cast of characters, carefully choreographed plot, and a hugely entertaining view of the world and its absurdities. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr and Mrs Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity, as misconceptions and hasty judgements lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love. In this supremely satisfying story, Jane Austen balances comedy with seriousness, and witty observation with profound insight. If Elizabeth Bennet returns again and again to her letter from Mr Darcy, readers of the novel are drawn even more irresistibly by its captivating wisdom.

Fantastic!

There is a reason this is a classic. Doesn't matter what kind of romances you like, this one is a must read, or listen in this case.

Excellent narration

Would you listen to Pride and Prejudice again? Why?

Absolutely. The story is delightful and surprisingly relevant despite being more than 200 years old.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elizabeth Bennet is one of the great heroines of English-language literature. She is clever, witty, and charming. She is prejudiced against Mr. Darcy from the start because of the deficiencies of character that she perceives in him, but grows to recognize the fact that first impressions are not always the most accurate (in fact, the novel was originally going to be titled "First Impressions"). She is very real--likeable but not perfect.

What does Lindsay Duncan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does the voices very well and uses an inflection that helps one to understand the overall context. I enjoyed the narration very much.

Excellent

Jane Austen is my security blanket; I believe I have listened to this book (and all the others) at least three times each. Ms. Duncan's characterizations are on point, and make the text all the more enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Voice actress was very good.

Even though all the voices were done by the same person you could hear and understand the countenance of each character being portrayed. Very well done. Lydia and her mother, Mrs. Bennett’s personality were so similar but the voice change was quite obvious. Love this book.
