Listeners will also savor the wit, the sly irony and satire and comedy that Miss Austen crowds into almost every quiet, well-bred line of this novel. There is great sanity, common sense and worldly wisdom to be found in her exploration of human nature.
Sir Walter Scott said, Jane Austen had "that exquisite touch which renders ordinary commonplace things and characters interesting." This quality provides today's listeners of Pride and Prejudice with a fascinating trip into the lives of the privileged in England during the 18th century.

Here we have then Bennet sisters facing a similar situation as in Sense and Sensibility. No male heirs to take over the family estate and fortune. For some reason their father made some silly deal to give it to his nephew. When the nephew comes to call to set everyone’s mind at ease it’s a disaster. He tried to get the sister to marry and him and when he’s spurred enough he leave. What does he do? Read to find out. Then each sister gets mixed up with guys and are made to look silly, brilliant and human. In the end all the matters are solved, somehow. Well, read to find out.
I like how the characters develop throughout the story.
I like that I could really like Darcy and Lizzy. They were really good people in this story.
I loved the narrator, she kept me enthusiastic about listening.
I loved the story line, it was definitely very long but I kept interest.
I love Elizabeth the best.
One of my favorite books, but the reader is not very skilled at differentiating between character voices. Sometimes the speed at which she reads is so fast that savoring the language and social satire is quite impossible. There are many better-read renditions out there!
I would rate this performance quite high. I listened to quite a few before I settled on this edition and I'm glad I did.
Pride & Prejudice is one of the original romance novels. Lizzy Bennett is strong-willed and Mr. Darcy is dream-worthy. But we already know that, don't we?
I thought her narrative voice was very engaging. Pride & Prejudice relies on it equally to those of the speaking characters so it was important that she gave it the right flair. I believe she did.
The book is already made into many films and I would not presume I could do it better.
Sharon Williams gives an excellent narration of my favorite book. I cannot wait to hear it again.
