Pride and Prejudice captures the affections of class-conscious 18th-century English families with matrimonial aims and rivalries. This story of the Bennet family and the novel's two protagonists, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, is told with a wit that author Jane Austen feared might prove "rather too light and bright, and sparkling".

The romantic clash between the opinionated Elizabeth and her proud beau, Mr. Darcy, is a splendid performance of civilized sparring. Austen's artistry is also apparent in the delineation of the minor characters: the ill-matched Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, Charles Bingley and his sisters, and particularly the fatuous Mr. Collins, whose proposal to Elizabeth is one of the finest comic passages in English literature.

Austen's radiant wit sparkles as her characters dance a delicate quadrille of flirtation and intrigue, making this book the most superb comedy of manners of Regency England.

Wonderful narritative + ebook!!

By now there are so many audio versions of this great book how do you choose? I picked this one and was glad of it because of the following.
1. The narrator sounded pleasing, and there was a change in voice for each character. 2. it was unabridged and the part that really made it fun, was having the e-book to read along with on occasion. I loved the movies, the book and this version of the audio book. I highly recommend it.

My first classic!!

I don't need to actually review the book but I will just say that I LOVED it! Im in my 30's and just thinking about it - I am SO happy I never read this book until now. There is so much to appreciate that would have been missed by my younger self. As this being my introduction to Jane Austen, I have to say I am beyond blown away at how advanced she was for her time - such a natural! Its crazy to imagine a woman in those days writing something like this, which just screams of how insanely cool she was!

As far as the narration - Josephine Bailey did an excellent job performing the characters, but her actual narration of the story in between dialogs was kind of weird and choppy. I will say that I sampled literally ALL the versions audible had, and this one sounded the best at the time, so Im still gland I went with it in the end.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone intimidated by a "classic". It wasn't at all drawn out, hard to understand, or boring as many of them have the rep of being - at least that's what I was afraid of. Jane Austen's wit and sassiness demands admiration and claimed me as a fan by the first chapter. SO GOOD!!

Addiction on my ipod

One word: amazing! I hated this book in high school, but at a friend's recommendation, I decided to give it another shot. I'm on my third listen and I can't get enough of it. The narrator is wonderful and brings each character to life with different voices that depict the wisdom of Elizabeth, the kindness of Jane, and even the flightiness of Lydia. I think that classics may be wasted on the young... I've decided to revisit all the books that I hated in high school.

Wonderful classic novel!

The narrator did a wonderful job getting the characters emotions across.

I wouldn't say I ever had any prejudices against reading this book but it was never very high on my reading list, but now I'm in love with it!

Exquisite Listen

I absolutely adore this narrators ability to change her voice just enough to help you identify more deeply with the characters.

I will be buying more books read by this narrator!

The book goes w/out saying. A classic must read that will not disappoint.

loved it!

I love Jane Austen's stories, but could never get myself to read her books, the style of writing was just to cumbersome for me. But listening to the audiobook was very enjoyable. The narrator was great. The character voices were good. I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I just started it again today!
