Excellent Narrator

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books and I read it regularly. So, my greatest concern in downloading this audiobook was whether or not the narrator would do credit to the work or not. I am happy to report that she does. Kate Reading does a wonderful job of voicing the various characters, making it easy to discern which character is saying what dialogue. Not only are the characters distinctly voiced but Reading obviously knows them intimately, for her performance of each is exactly in line with Austen's description of them. Kitty is truly fretful. Mr. Darcy is dignified and reserved. Elizabeth is lively. In fact, Reading was such an excellent narrator that I am disappointed that there are no other Jane Austen works narrated by her.

loved it.

I've read the book many times, but it was equally enjoyable listening to it while I did other things. It's very well narrated, and the sound quality is excellent. no complaints about this title.

Austen on Audio.....

I ordered this book because I have never read any of Jane Austen's work. While this might be a stellar book, I have it on a list to read, I had issues with it as an audiobook.

My audiobooks are typically used in the car while commuting (only occasionally on a long trip). While this story might be a good selection if you were on a long trip (and could listen to large chunks of it at a time), I did not enjoy it on my commutes. I would not recommend it for that use, unless you have read and are familiar with the long list of characters.

While I enjoyed the Reader (Kate has a lovely voice), I had issues with the selection. I loved her reading of Anne Rice's Pandora much more.

If you are looking for classics that work well while commuting in the car look at Uncle Tom's Cabin and Anna Karenina.

A wonderful book and a wonderful narrator

The book was great, better than I ever expected. It made me laught, and worry, and exclaim with the characters.
In this case spesifically I must give the narrator her due in the pleasure this book gave me. She was great, poised, clear, pleasant to listen to, and she conveyed the spirit of the words. She was also very good at voicing the different characters so that each had a distinct and fitting sound. I later went to check if this narrator voiced any other of Jane Austen book because that's who I want to hear reading them to me. Unfortunately this the only one of Austen's books that Kate Reading voiced. Which is a real pity.

Kate Reading is also Johanna Ward

Just want to add my praise for this wonderfully read book. As did many others, I went to look for more narrations of Jane Austen by Kate Reading, and there are none. However, I found, by googling Kate Reading, that she uses many names, one of which is Johanna Ward. And there is an excellent Mansfield Park by that narrator.

Excellent reader; Great novel

Pride and Prejudice is the 4th unabridged Austen novel to which I have listened and is the best of an excellent lot. Her novels are very witty and have an amazingly modern sensibility. The reader here is exceptional--one of the best I have encountered.

wonderful!!

I have read the book many times over the years and seen different versions of it in movies/video. This adio book captured perfectly the essence and nuances of the book and brought this listener into the drawing rooms and conversations of the characters. I actually cringed with embarrassment for Elizabeth in the relevant parts and laughed out loud at others. A truly wonderful experience!

Drop what you're doing

This audiobook brings home the fun of reading a Jane Austin book but in an audio format. The narrator, Kate Reading, does the voices very convincingly. I usually listen before I go to bed at night or when out walking, but I found myself just sitting and listening to this one. I would definitely download other books read by Kate Reading.

A joy

The reader has a charming voice and apt characterizations, stresses, and pauses, making the more recondite passages accessible. I quite often wished my commute longer to be able to listen to more.
