Publisher's summary

"His perfect indifference, and your pointed dislike, make it so delightfully absurd!"

Pride and Prejudice has delighted generations of readers with its unforgettable cast of characters, carefully choreographed plot, and a hugely entertaining view of the world and its absurdities. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr and Mrs Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity, as misconceptions and hasty judgements lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love. In this supremely satisfying story, Jane Austen balances comedy with seriousness, and witty observation with profound insight. If Elizabeth Bennet returns again and again to her letter from Mr Darcy, readers of the novel are drawn even more irresistibly by its captivating wisdom.

Love Lindsay Duncan

My favourite book, and a lovely reading. I could listen to her voice all day.

This is the version to buy--!

Any additional comments?

While there are many good audio renditions of Austen's classic available on Audible, Lindsay Duncan's reading is BY FAR the one I consider the best. Her voice acting is superb-- she gets all the characters' voices spot on-- and her easy tone and pace make for an extremely satisfying listen.

Download this one

This version cost less than others, and for some reason, had far fewer reviews/listens. But it was a great choice and I’m glad I took a chance w it, rather than spending twice as much for the other versions,

Narration is easy to hear and follow, and the narrator has a lovely voice. I would say it is an unabridged version, but that is a guess, and is based on my knowledge of lines from the BBC miniseries w Jennifer Ehle.

The story will always be wonderful. I look forward to re-listening again next year, and the year after, and so on.

Once again the novel surpasses the film(s)

The novel has received loving transfer to the screen by the BBC and others, but the novel remains so much richer. The audio performance of the book was outstanding and it is difficult to imagine a better narration. Highly recommended!

Lovely Romance

Enjoyed this story, always wanted to read it after growing up on the movie. I was not disappointed. I personally would have loved a slightly younger narrator, but I did adore listening to Lindsay tell the story.

This narrator is perfect for Jane Austen books!

I have read Pride and Prejudice four times and this is the first time I’ve had it read to me through an audio book. I was nervous the narrator wouldn’t do it justice but I was wrong! She’s perfect for Jane Austen books and I’m hoping to find that she has narrated more!
