Publisher's summary

Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion and a life-long committed Darwinist, abridges and reads this special audio version of Charles Darwin's famous book. A literally world-changing book, Darwin put forward the anti-religious and scientific idea that humans in fact evolved over millions of generations from animals, starting with fish, all the way up through the ranks to apes, then to our current form.

Dawkin's passion for his subject and hero are clear and exciting for listeners, who, whatever their religious or scientific views, will be intrigued and captivated by this involving production of arguably one of the most important books of all time.

fact

Dawkins choses the best way to abridge this enlightening book. Darwins discovery of the fact of evolution is unfolded to you in an irrefutable that would convince doubters and fascinate anyone who has any intrest in learning our the secrets of life on earth.

Great choice

It felt like I was back in time (with future tidbits) listening to Darwin himself

Nice abridgment

Dawkins reads well and adds some commentary. Makes me want to listen to the original but recommend for those wanting an introduction.

Even better than expected

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I anticipated the language or other aspects would feel antiquated but the explanation is clear and presents evolution in a form that is completely digestible to those (including me) who are not scientists. Darwin actually answers questions that I've always had about natural selection, taxonomy, and evolution as a whole.

In addition, this was brilliantly narrated by Richard Dawkins. You can sense it is spoken by someone who truly understands the significance of each passage, and provides the emphasis where he feels it is important.

Amazing

Who else could have read narrated this book but Richard Dawkins. Listening to history being made by the voice of evolutions most famous defender in modern times.

What a feast for the ears!

Darwin's flowery language and clear reasoning with Dawkins' charming voice. Richard Dawkins is not merely reading the text, but almost plays the role of Darwin in this book, and at times I forgot that it was not Darwin himself that was speaking. You can hear his genuine admiration for the wonders of nature and genuine passion for finding the truth in the maze of the nature's facts.
It was all the more moving when in the end Dawkins changes to his XX century self again to read the famous "Light will be thrown..." with what I would call _reverence_ to the vast ocean of knowledge that these words entailed.
This is an important, interesting and very beautifully written book, in which almost nothing is outdated, and a lot of things have become known better and in more detail.
