Streetwise George and his big, childlike friend Lennie are drifters, searching for work in the fields and valleys of California. They have nothing except the clothes on their back, and a hope that one day they’ll find a place of their own and live the American dream. But dreams come at a price. Gentle giant Lennie doesn’t know his own strength, and when they find work at a ranch he gets into trouble with the boss’s daughter-in-law. Trouble so bad that even his protector George may not be able to save him....

"Not bad at all."
"They" say, it's one of those books that should be on everyones bucket list. I have never read it and was intrigued.
Overall, it isn't a bad book. The tension and the building of the story is done very well.
It isn't a long book either and listened to it one afternoon.
Would reccomend - although the narration is a little annoying at times, or maybe that is just my perception...
"good for one's general culture"
Easy listening, very short, the sort of book that makes up part of a learned person's library. Lots of interesting themes to ponder upon.
"Brilliant to support GCSE's"
This is fantastic on an iPad for supporting year 11s in their exam prep.
You can easily select the sections you need to litem to prior to the lessons.
"An interesting reading -- and good for teachers"
I played this audio reading of Of Mice and Men to my GCSE class and was extremely grateful because it saved me losing my voice. The novel does need to be read well to come alive -- reading the whole thing around the class just doesn't quite work. The reader takes it at a very slow pace, capturing the voices of Lennie, George, and Slim with real subtlety. Some of my class complained about the overly American accent -- but that's the whole point!!
"You can't go wrong"
My son was reading it for GCSE and so I decided to give it a listen as the sample (which you should always always listen to by the way as a bad narration will spoil even the best book) sounded good. I had forgotten what a great book Of Mice and Men is, as I had read it originally so long ago. John Steinbeck writes so beautifully and this audio version is a good one. My son laughed at how the narrator read Lenny's parts, but I didn't. The story will move you and you will want to listen to it all over again.
"A good listen"
The story itself is very short and simple, but I was blown away by the narration - excellent!
"Amazing if you love books"
Simple but extraordinary
This is the first book by John Steinbeck that I have read and I was amazed at how good it was. The story is very short and not much really happens, however the characters are very complex and well constructed. It also gives a great insight into the lives of plantation workers at the beginning of the 20th century, their fears and dreams and, although the setting is very far from today's reality the humanity of the characters makes them very relatable. The author's ability to convey so many human experiences in such a short novel says all about his incredible talent and craftsmanship. This story is not something that I would normally reach for - had I known in fact what it was going to be about, but it is definitely one of the best books that I have come across in my life.
If you have hight standards for literature than this is the book for you. It will satisfy even the finest tastes. Regardless of whether you love Tolstoy or Gillian Flynn - you won't be able to fault this book.
The performance of the person who reads the book deserves an Oscar! Probably the best reading I have listened to on Audible.
"brings back memories"
we read this book in school & always wanted to read it again & even tho the audio book was great & easy to listen too well done
This book was amazingly read, characterising each voice perfectly. Every detail down to the pauses in the sentences were how I read the book to be. I also loved that it wasn't too long of a listen. Highly recommend
The writing is very good.
The narration by Clarke Peters is excellent.
The only thing is that I saw the end coming too soon, with all the details and all. Apart from this I highly recommend this book.
