Publisher's summary

"Call me Ishmael." Thus starts the greatest American novel. Melville said himself that he wanted to write "a mighty book about a mighty theme" and so he did. It is a story of one man's obsessive revenge-journey against the white whale, Moby-Dick, who injured him in an earlier meeting. Woven into the story of the last journey of The Pequod is a mesh of philosophy, rumination, religion, history, and a mass of information about whaling through the ages.

Best Narrator

I’ve used a few audio books to accompany my reading and this narrator is by far the most engaged and animated voice I have heard. It makes an already difficult read more tolerable.

Great way to kill some time.

The language of the time is refreshing after the relentless vulgarity of the present offerings.

My favourite book ever

Everyone should read this book three times. Once as a teenager, again after children and again in old age. So many levels, so many ideas and so well written.

Incredible narration. Definitive audio version.

Of all the audiobook versions of Moby Dick, this is head and shoulders above the rest. Hootkins was a brilliant actor, and his performance here is genius level. If you’ve ever struggled to read this book, this is absolutely the most accessible way to access the text.
