Editorial reviews

Barbara Caruso's rendering is wonderful. She skillfully combines the voices of a fairly large cast. Just as splendidly, she presents the text in an old-fashioned style, tone and pronunciation befitting the setting of the story. The four sisters, though each unique, must be a challenge even for several voices, but Caruso's solo voice always enthralls. The performance is worthwhile no matter what previous experience with Little Women the listener has.

Publisher's summary

Most people know this book from the Academy Award-winning motion picture starring Winona Ryder. Now, introduce them to the sparkling American classic behind the movie: a charming portrait of the joys and hardships of the four sisters in Civil War New England. Separated by the war from their beloved parents, these "little women" struggle to find their place in the world.

Much better than I thought it would be

I've seen the movie but I've never read the book. Everything in the movie is in the book it's just out of order. The book is much better because it goes into detail. You understand the relationships much better through the book. I enjoyed it very much.

The narrator isn't the best

I read books along with the audio. I don't think she has a different version than mine that has random words changed, like precocious becoming precious. She messes up quite a bit and her word stumbles throw me. I'm pretty sure she messes up her accents many times and I didn't like some of them. However she did do voices and dos Aunt March quite well. She at least HAD different voices. But it seemed that everyone became Marmee after awhile. The story itself is lovely. I'm not a crazy fan of Alcott's writing, but her story and considering the time period and language it's a great story.

It was "Aight

I enjoyed the book, but I was somewhat disappointed. It was a good story. but I couldn't identify with the characters. I never read Little Women as a child, even though it was on every reading list that I could remember. I was never really drawn to it spite of the fact that my family had four girls of the same approximate ages. Decades into my adulthood, I decided to read it after it popped up as a recommendation after listening to another book, and my instincts were right. Mrs. Alcott is a good story teller, but it was not for me. I couldn't see me or my sisters in any of the characters. Narrator was excellent on every character, but Jo. I couldn't stand it. In addition, it sometimes changed from chapter to chapter, and I often got confused as to who was speaking.

a Very heartwarming story about the march family and their daily lives .. many lessons are illustrated in a very fine way i like the way she let us develop with each character as if i lived with them , they are very funny and warm and i liked Lauri very much he is faithful and such a good friend .. but i have to say i really got bored and most parts of the story as it was SO SO LONG ..fun read though

KEPT MY ATTENTION

What made the experience of listening to Little Women the most enjoyable?

The story itself is very well written. The descriptions were so detailed I often felt I could see the characters. The narrator nailed it perfectly.
