Publisher's summary

Featured title on PBS's The Great American Read in 2018

As a New England mother struggles to support her family in the wake of her husband's service in the Civil War, her four daughters struggle, too - caught between childhood dreams and the realities of burgeoning adulthood. For Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March, raised in integrity and virtue, negotiating the right path in life means making choices that will either narrow or expand their destinies.

Based on the author’s life, Little Women transcends genre, gender, and class with its examination of personal quests, societal restrictions, family ties, and the end of innocence.

AmazonClassics brings you timeless works from the masters of storytelling. Ideal for anyone who wants to listen to a great work for the first time or rediscover an old favorite, these new editions open the door to literature's most unforgettable characters and beloved worlds.

Classic story. One for the girls

Beautiful story.
My 11 year old daughter and I loved listening to this together. My son and husband were terribly bored though. Definitely one for the girls.

fantastic performance of a classic!

I love classic books, and when I can find them in a well-performed audiobook so much the better. This is extremely well done, the narrator has a lovely pleasing voiced and a very nice Pace. I enjoyed this book tremendously!

Sweet story, saccharine performance

Always a sweet story to revisit, but the voices for the girls were a bit overly saccharine in an already sentimental story.

Great story BUT disappointing ending

I think the development of the story demonstrates that life is full of surprises. Some of the surprises though were rather disappointing within this story. First, I can't believe Teddy ended up with Amy. The complete opposite of Jo, not to mention her sister. Yet, the story implies that Laurie considered Amy as a replacement for Jo since before they became a couple. It was a little sad. What really was a heart breaking was the fact that Jo ended up marrying Mr. Bhaer, and against what the worda say, the development of the story demonstrates that she ended up with him because of solitude, not because of love. At least that was my interpretation. The story presents Jo as a strong and independent woman. Even past the middle of the story, I was certain that she would commit to her resolution to be single like her aunt. You can imagine my disappointment when she ended up with the professor. To be fair, she did mention that the feeling of loneliness made her think she would have taken Teddy, as he proposed to her during that late stage of her life. What is worst, I believe, is that the professor never really respected her as a writer, and hus comments about her writing made her lose confidence in her writing to the point that she stop doing it until her mom encouraged her to give it one more try.
The detail in the story, and most of the development is great. However, the last chapters seemed rather disappointing, at least in my non professional opinion.

Little Women

Sandra Burr is my absolute favorite narrator. I look for her in so many of audible books. She is so good. If it’s a British book I seek a British narrator of course. But for an American narrator, Sandra Burr is amazing!

This book is fantastic for all age’s I’ve seen all 3 movies with Katherine Hepburn just so so, with June Allyson & Elizabeth Taylor& Peter Lawford best version, and Winona Ryder good version as well. The book is much better all around though. So many more details and storyline that the movies can’t give you. I live books. This is worth listening to and reading over and over again!
