Perfect narration for a magnificent novel

Combining the wonderful translation by Julie Rose, a gifted narrator and Victor Hugo, this audiobook cannot miss being one of my favorites. Victor Hugo has long philosophical digressions which, after a few, I began to enjoy and agree with. But the underlying story is about a troubled guy who becomes a superhero. Mitch Rapp and The Gray Man could take some tips from Jean Valjean. As other reviewers have pointed out, getting through the pathos of the first half is the biggest challenge. Hang in there! Next on your list for a long listen could be War and Peace or The Way of Kings for 50 hour plus extravaganzas

it's not the musical - much more

60 hours may be a bit much for the modern listener. fortunately Hugo alternates between the narrative and his philosophy and French history. an interesting listen.

Great reader very long book.

Any additional comments?

This book was brutally long for me. I love the story, but not the length. The reader was fantastic. So if you are thinking of listening to les mis over reading it yourself, this audiobook did a great job. Be ready for a marathon though.

truly one of the best

A beautifully read, stoically conversational translation of one of humanity's most compassionate novels. Listening to it you feel as though you are sitting down at a cafe table with Victor Hugo - a gifted raccontuer who can teach you a great deal. Playful and profound. I can't reccomend it enough.
