Initially published under the pseudonym Currer Bell in 1847, Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre erupted onto the English literary scene, immediately winning the devotion of many of the world's most renowned writers, including William Makepeace Thackeray, who declared it a work "of great genius."
Widely regarded as a revolutionary novel, Brontë's masterpiece introduced the world to a radical new type of heroine, one whose defiant virtue and moral courage departed sharply from the more acquiescent and malleable female characters of the day.
Passionate, dramatic, and surprisingly modern, Jane Eyre endures as one of the world's most beloved novels. This Modern Library Paperback Classics edition includes newly written explanatory notes.

"At the end we are steeped through and through with the genius, the vehemence, the indignation of Charlotte Bronte." (Virginia Woolf)
Josephine Bailey brought the book of Jane Eyre to life! The book is so wonderful and Josephine added to the brillliance of the story. Thanks for providing this memorable book and narration.
I found out that my wife was reading this book and it sounded like something that would help me pass the long miles. I drive truck for a living so an audio book really makes the day go by faster. I was not disappointed in the storyline at all. The main plot of this book is a good one and will keep the attention of almost any reader. After my wife and I had both finished the book we rented the movie. What a let down! If I hadn’t read the book I would have had no clue what was going on. So much was lacking from the movie that my wife and I found ourselves completely lost. In conclusion, Watch the movie if you’re of a mind too but for sure read the book!
Absolutely! This is a truly superb audiobook. You walk with the characters throughout, your heart warms to their experiences and is broken by their hardships. It is a story that searches the depth of emotions but never leaves you deserted.
I would think it difficult to compare "Jane Eyre" to any other work... It is much more the benchmark of literature than a mere classic example. If you want literature at it's most articulate, most embracing... There is none better than this "Jane Eyre".
I enjoyed her ability to keep you in the character she was expressing at all time, you believe yourself to be hearing the most masculine, daunting, solid of males when they are speaking, and you don't question the gender you hear. And yet, when you are listening to the most feminine, childlike, delicate of women or girls, you are transported into the very presence of that child or woman. Very well narrated, very well enacted, superb work Josephine Bailey.
Embrace your spirit with openness and come walk through the breadth and depth of life, tragedy and elation, and find home
I just love Jane and everything that the she went through...I could relate to her at just about every stage of her life. Love..mystery...and keeps you guessing along the way....and I truly believe that every girl should read (or listen to) this book!
Loved the narrator. She does a remarkable Jane & Mr. Rochester. I listened to it twice and will be listening to it again. The story never gets old and weary. One of my favourite books!!! Epic, timeless, rejoicing and triumphant.
