Publisher's summary
An anthology of over 50 classic children's poems, read by some of our finest actors. Full of fun, excitement, and magic, the poems in this collection are guaranteed to spark the imagination and open up a world of wonder.
There are animal poems ("The Duck and the Kangaroo", "Goosie Goosie Gander", and "How Doth the Little Crocodile"), nonsense poems ("The Quangle Wangle's Hat", "The Dong with a Luminous Nose", and "Jabberwocky"), nursery rhymes ("Hey Diddle Diddle", "One Potato"), and lullabies ("Hush Little Baby") - not to mention a wealth of humorous verse.
Favourites from authors such as Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, and Robert Louis Stevenson are all here, as well as less familiar but nonetheless hugely entertaining poems such as" The Camel's Complaint"and "The Elephant, or The Force of Habit". Vividly read by Alex Jennings, Emilia Fox, Geoffrey Palmer and Julia McKenzie, these delightful poems will appeal to children of all ages.

It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

The wide variety of carefully selected poetry in this audiobook provides the perfect introduction to reel in those who are new to poetry, and for poetry lovers to experience beloved verses in a fresh, vivid way. Lithgow offers insightful and sometimes poignant commentary to accompany each poem. His essential criterion is that "each poem's light shines more brightly when read aloud".

Alas
If only modern poets would write such fun poems for us older children. I do miss Ogden Nash.

PERFECT, NON-TWADDLE, QUALITY POEMS!
What did you love best about Great Poems for Children?
The poems weren't too long, read by different narrators, appropriate for young children's ears
Any additional comments?
My son (3 1/2) and I listened to entire audiobook. It was so wonderful and amazing to hear these quality, beautiful poems. HIGHLY recommended!

Scarcely sentimental, wildly merrimental
Largely Lear and Carroll and Goose, I’ve never heard these poems read so well, and four excellent narrators mean it’s never boring.
