Horrible narration

I am used to listening to very long audiobooks - classics, lectures and the like. But I could not bring ,myself to go very far with this book because of the narrator. I believe I would have enjoyed the stories if the narration were improved, but as there is only one version I had to return this book.

50 Great Old Stories

Some of these are stories I have heard and some I had not heard until now. Either way, they have all been great to listen to.

The narrator was one of the best I've ever heard. She deserves an award for best narrator. She made each story (all of the stories are not what we would call "horror " in this time ) come absolutely alive. I listened to them all without skipping even one.

If you would like a good collection of older stories with excellent narration then this is for you and worth the credit at the very least.

Great stories, but . . .

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was not time well spent because the narrator had a very annoying voice. These stories are wonderful classics and I so looked forward to listening to them, but the narrator had such a strange style of speaking, I just couldn't listen. The unfortunate thing is that she narrated all the stories.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fifty Classic Horror Stories?

The most memorable moment was when I stopped listening in the middle of the fourth story because of the narrator and made the decision to delete the collection from my library.

Would you be willing to try another one of Cathy Dobson’s performances?

No.

Any additional comments?

Not recommended. Don't waste your credit on this one.

Awful narrator!

Cathy Dobson should immediately consider other career options. She is quite possibly the worst narrator I have had the displeasure of listening to. A shame really given how riveting some of the stories in the book. I would return this audio book if I knew how to honestly

I was looking forward to this one but...

The narrator was horrible!!! As soon as she read the title for "The Beast With Five Fingers", I laughed. I could tell she was trying to be dramatic, but she tries to do it for almost every sentence. She draws out the ending of the words for dramatic effect, but it just ended up making me laugh. Not recommended.

Wasted Credits/$ - NO MORE DOBSON/RED DOOR!

Personally, I love this literary genre. But whomever is producing these audiobooks, makes no effort to hide a blatant indifference for its authors and their stories -- and YOU, the listener. I'm filing a complaint with Amazon and Audible. The same stories, read by Dobson, are used repeatedly in these collections. Don't make the mistake I did and waste your credit/$.

Horrible narration

The narration was so horribly annoying, the vocal inflections so unnatural and irritating, that even though I attempted to listen several times I couldn't stand more than 10 minutes at a time, which is a shame because these are great stories. I am not a person who likes giving out negative reviews, either, but, honestly, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

Voice actor grating to the ears

I found the stories were interesting but the clearly fake accent the reader is using was like nails on a chalk board

The worst

The heavy assent was hard to follow and very pitchy to an irritating effect. The stories stories some of which I'm familiar with were boring and it was quite a disappointment.
