Good narration is the heart of an audiobook - cannot understand this narrator and
just gave up on it. And believe me, I listen to lots of ghost stories and mysteries.
This is an interesting, diverse choice of stories of good quality.
I dread the narration.
Good stories, well narrated and great value for a credit.
Nuance and clarity
Far too long for that! But after every story it was hard to resist starting the next one straight away.
what a load of rubbish. stories go on and on making no sense and the narrator has to be the most talentless person ever. no charisma what so ever. give this a miss. I'm annoyed I wasted my credit on this!
"Good Stories Completely Ruined"
These are good stories but are completely ruined by the narrator. Cathy Dobson's voice is grating. I couldn't absorb the story being told due to her seriously irritating voice. Surely, somebody at Audible must listen to these before publishing.
"Automated reading, intonation impossible to follow"
No matter how much you enjoy the stories in this volume the fact that is has clearly been auto-read by a computer program (real voice text to speech) is to me utterly impossible to listen to. The intonation is wholly unrealistic, flat and monotonous and intensely distracting making the stories difficult to follow and utterly emotionless.
This must be a real-voice-text-to-speech rendering. If she is not a computer simulation I can't see why any publisher would pay for such an awful performance.
No redeeming qualities whatsoever.
"I struggled to make it past the second story"
I'd recommend the book but not this audiobook
any other "classic ghost story" books
A mix of male and female readers. Generally someone who can actually read properly
get the book out of the library and read it myself
This is ruined by the narrator. My own fault as I should have played a sample. The reader has strange inflections which are very very irritating. I honestly haven't heard someone, presumably professional, read a book so poorly. I couldn't listen to it after a while. I kept hoping it would get better but didn't. A shame as i know some of the stories but couldnt get past the second story.
