UN-abridged?? Someone needs to change that.

I love the Frank Muller recording but thought I would try a different narrator and get to enjoy Dickens's other Christmas stories. Big mistake! Sam Goodyear doesn't even have an English accent, and the recording is very much "abridged". It deletes sentences, paragraphs, and even changes the prose. He sometimes changes what Dickens has as description and makes it dialoge. It should not be labeled "UNabridged".

The short stories were painful to listen to in Sam Goodyear's voice as well. I listened to two of the short stories and could not take it anymore. The set up is very poorly done. The five staves of A Christmas Carol were not the first five chapters on the recording. When I tried to find the short stories, I had to randomly press different chapters. It was very annoying. The only good aspect I can write is that Audible cares if you enjoy their books and graciously refunds your money or credit when you are dissatisfied. I love Audible! :)

Spend a bit more money for a better recording

Any additional comments?

My review has nothing to do with " A Christmas Carol" since we all know it is a classic. The quality of the recording was terrible. I sounded like an amateur recording of a live performance. I listened in the car and it got so loud at times it made me wince. I was constantly adjusting the volume. The sound was not clear and as an extra added attraction, the narrator would announce, Track 1, Track 2, etc. at various points of the story. I did not listen to anything beyond "A Christmas Carol". Too annoying. I'm unsure of how to gauge the performance, but there was too much shouting to suit me.

not to be rude, but AVOID THIS!!!

What would have made Charles Dickens 200th Anniversary Christmas Collection better?

i was excited to find a compilation of ALL dickens' christmas stories, and i'd love to try another version, maybe next year.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

i really REALLY hesitate to "diss" anyone publicly, but this performance is just not up to a professional standard of narration. the reader routinely mis-pronounces common words, and stumbles over his tongue about every five minutes. it's VERY distracting, to say the least. possibly we should blame the director or editor or whomever decided this title was finished and ready for release.

Any additional comments?

this is the first book in an entire year of audible i was not able to finish. possibly it becomes WONDERFUL in hour four... (i gave up slightly less than halfway thru the 7hr title)

Great Story, Terrible Narrator

What would have made Charles Dickens 200th Anniversary Christmas Collection better?

Another narrator, I could not enjoy the story because I could stand the narrator, and I am a huge fan of Charles Dickens. The narrator for the Christmas Carol, Sam Goodyear was good, I wish he had read all of the other Christmas stories, then I could have finished the book and enjoyed it.

What didn’t you like about Sam Goodyear’s performance?

I like Sam Goodyear performance. It was Deaver Brown performance that was not enjoyable.

Really a poor quality recording

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I sopped listening to this book when I was over annoyed by it. The quality of the recording is really poor, the narrator announces track 1, 2, etc., it seems like no one reviewed the final product. To make things worst at some point you can hear a motorcycle in the background. I regret having purchased this product.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Charles Dickens 200th Anniversary Christmas Collection?

I sopped listening to this book.

What didn’t you like about Sam Goodyear’s performance?

I did not liked it. He almost destroys Dickens' work.

Did Charles Dickens 200th Anniversary Christmas Collection inspire you to do anything?

A sense of pity because I really wanted to listen the stories.
