Publisher's summary

"Who is John Galt?" is the immortal question posed at the beginning of Ayn Rand's masterpiece. The answer is the astonishing story of a man who said he would stop the motor of the world and did.

As passionate as it is profound, Atlas Shrugged is one of the most influential novels of our time. In it, Rand dramatizes the main tenets of objectivism, her philosophy of rational selfishness. She explores the ramifications of her radical thinking in a world that penalizes human intelligence and integrity.

Part mystery, part thriller, part philosphical inquiry, part volatile love affair, Atlas Shrugged is the book that confirmed Ayn Rand as one of the most popular novelists and most respected thinkers of the 20th century.

philosophy as fiction

Ayn Rand wrote a masterpiece of warning. This novel is a warning about how individual over collectivism works and collectivism fails. She escaped the USSR and warned the world of the consequences of collectivism. We failed to learn and are beginning to suffer the consequences.

Excellent book but it is abridged.

Four stars because I was unaware that this version is abridged. I missed the parts they cut.

Excellent story of where the world will end up when Socialism takes over. Rand lived this when her father’s grocery store was taken by the Communists after the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. Remember when you read this that it was written in a time she sexual freedom could ruin women, and men ran the world.

Nice book, but not excellent

This story looks much more the Soviet Union than the USA.

The narrator is simply excellent!

Inspiring.

I have listened to this book no fewer then 10 times. I am always inspired and moved. I was gifted a CD version of this recorded book and sought out the exact digital version. I love the mid Atlantic accents and the manner in which he conveys the story. I continue to listen to it over and over again and as I move about my daily life I find myself say, “who is John Galt?”

Great Read & Story

Edward Herman and one of the greatest narrators. This powerful story is as relevant today as it was in 1957. The imagery and the emotion Herman portrays will draw you in. Once I started I couldn't stop. Binge worthy.
