Publisher's summary

Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the inscrutable world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

Great story, among Frank Muller's best narrations

Along with Frank Muller's reading of "Moby Dick" (one of the best audiobooks I've ever heard), this one shows why Mr. Muller was one of the great narrators.

This book is great. If you haven't read it or heard it read (or even if you heard it read by someone else), you will not be disappointed by this great audiobook.

It's truly heartbreaking that this was written about WWI, and we still had WWII.

There is no Glory in War, only Death

Any additional comments?

Now this is one of the most power books I've ever read on the subject of war. Highly recommended for everyone I know. And anyone thinking about signing up for the military should read it for post haste.

Fantastic story covering multiple aspects of war.

From battle to home life, from the troops in the front to the politicians at the top, this gives multiple perspectives on war.

We Brethren... mankind

See history from the other sides point of view, but its not, its our point of view just on the other side. I felt for these characters, people, like they were none other than my own brothers, friends, human kinds family.

Tragic beauty

So glad I went back and listened to this book. It was one of those classics in my bucket list. This book is beautifully written with almost poetic prose. Even though this book is about a war that occurred over a century ago, the imagery and story the author develops speaks to the timeless horror of war. As far as the performance, I cannot imagine a better narrator to tell this tragic, and shocking tale.

Powerful! Tragic

A harrowing story of WW1 trench warfare. Everyone should know what these soldiers went through.

Great look into the mind of a WW1 German soldier

Great book, but you can doze off if you don't pay attention. Very intriguing and fascinating book. Would recommend it.

a direct insight into life on front line

truly eye opening accounts of what life was like on the front line, perhaps not for the faint hearted.

A window into the heart of a 20-yo at the front

I must step out of this audiobook and make supper for my children, but all I want to do is sit and weep, and find someone else who has read or listened to this book, who can share with me the tears, agonies, and also humorous moments I've experienced through the course of this story. To those who did not have to read this to understand it, Thank you for answering the call of duty, and giving up your years for a future other than your own. I will never truly understand your sacrifice.
Having experienced this book (and this superb reader), I think I have seen the shadow on the cave wall. As a female civilian, that's about as close as I could expect to come to that final Quiet on the Western Front.
I recommend this audio book to anyone wanting a better understanding of war, WWI, or grief or loss in the time of war (when you don't have the luxury of stopping to grieve). This is a book for a mature reader, perhaps late teens. Do not give this book to a child who is an advanced reader. Parents, read this book along with your children so that you can dispassionately discuss difficult themes. A young person reading this book should have a mentor to discuss it with.

Heartbreaking and beautiful.

Heartbreaking and beautiful. It is worth the time to listen as an adult if you were introduced to it in school.
