    "What a pleasant surprise"

What a great and pleasant surprise this masterpiece is to me.

I do not recall very many books that portray character to such a remarkable degree. British men and women, Indian Moslems, the servants--20 or 30 years before Great Britain lost India, and tells why it was simply inevitable. This book describes India's people and the British understanding of India than any number of other books.

I recall Samuel Butler's Way of All Flesh, Hemingway's books, the Forsyte Saga come immediately to mind.

The reading was superb. Otherwise, my words are inadequate to describe this book.

Wonder what British royalty thinks of You personally? Read this book!

    "Incredible"

This is a beautiful, profound and philosophical novel that will remain in your thoughts long after its conclusion. It is also one of the best read novels I have ever heard. The performance is nothing less than masterful.

    "Great Book and great performance"

By far, the best audiobook I've ever listened to. Forster shows real genius in this story of colonial India. The performance by the narrator is fantastic. I highly recommend this audiobook.

The movie was good, but the book is even better.

    "exceeds expectations for a "Classic""

As others noted, the characterization in this novel is masterful. I love historical fiction that not only transports me beyond the present, but also educates (and this certanily does), communicates human reality beyond mere historical facts (compellingful so here), and gives a sense of literary satisfaction in the end (hurrah for this one!)--- but Passage to India surpasses even those criteria. I will buy a paper copy of this to go over passages that are so deeply philosophical and speak of the interrelationhsip of world religions. I look forward to listening to this again in the near future.

"Made this book a lot better!"

Listening to this audiobook made getting through the book a lot easier. It even made the book more interesting. I had been trying to read it for a class and was having trouble getting through it. I was able to listen to it in no time. The reader even read at a decent pace so if you want you can follow along in the book. The reader does a very good job, although at first I thought that it was a little cheesey that he changed his voice for different characters, but then found that it made it a lot easier to follow the story line and the dialogue. I would recommend this audio book to anyone who has difficulty reading books for school and not just for pleasure.

    "Great literature - great narration"

What more is there to say about this wonderfully evocative novel full of vivid characters and historical detail? The narration is superb, even if his rendition of the female voices falls a bit short of perfect. Nicely paced. Highly recommended. A favorite author...and now a favorite classic.

    "Good story - phenomenal narrator!"

This book is recommended professional reading in the US Navy. I feared it might have been a boring read, so I decided to try the audio version. It was by no means boring! I am very impressed by the complexity of the story and the characters which are portrayed in this very robust book. This story remains as relevant today as it did in the author's lifetime.

The best part of this audiobook is the Narrator, Sam Dastor! His voices were amazing, his dialog as British men and women, and Indian men and women was superb.

I was thoroughly engrossed in the story and I attribute 75% of that to Mr. Dastor's narration! I highly recommend this book! Thanks!

    "Simply Fabulous"

This was my first adventure in listening to a book rather than reading it. I had to read it for a graduate class and thought I would listen to it here just to get an idea of the story and then read the physical book. No need for the physical book!! I'm not an auditory learner and I retained EVERYTHING from this book and its reading. The narrator was amazing. There was no need for "he said" "she said" I followed right along. The range of accents he produced was amazing, and ok, there were a few minor characters that the voices weren't great on, but the major ones, spectacular. I'm gushing a bit, but this narration and book has me hooked on "reading" in this fashion. I was a bit upset when the story ended as I had really gotten into the characters and storyline. Forster really does put together a masterful piece. I highly, highly recommend this book!!

    "First rate narration"

The story is, of course, a great classic. But it comes alive with the outstanding narration. I recommend without reservation.

"A wonderful novel ruined by a terrible performance"
How could the performance have been better?

The reader simpers and squeaks all the women's roles. The idea that Mrs. Moore would sound like a toothless crone is so inappropriate for her character, and even for her age. It became unbearable and I was almost unable to finish the book.
