Publisher's summary

Blackstone Publishing presents a new recording of this immensely popular book.

One of the most celebrated classics of the twentieth century, Orwell’s cautionary tale of a man trapped under the gaze of an authoritarian state feels more relevant now than ever before.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police, a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities’ will and people live tepid lives by rote.

Winston Smith, the hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him. He knows even as he continues to pursue his forbidden love affair that eventually he will come to destruction.

The year 1984 has come and gone, yet George Orwell’s nightmare vision in 1949 of the world we were becoming is still the great modern classic of negative Utopia. It is a prophetic and haunting tale that exposes the worst crimes imaginable: the destruction of freedom and truth.

"It is probable that no other work of this generation has made us desire freedom more earnestly or loathe tyranny with such fullness." (New York Times, 1949)

More relevant than ever!

A must read, if only to be astounded at the parallels today's governmental and corporate mind control. I think Facebook may be the modern equivalent of big brother.

Finished all 11 hours.

Loved it, and the narrator had a smoothing voice. Did not have one problem at all.

Best Fictional Book I Have Ever Read

I couldn't stop reading this book. It was so intriguing and always left you wanting to read was next. I really enjoyed the story and would recommend it to anyone who likes entertaining reading material. I love how it is relatable to present day ideas and things that exist now. It is amazing.

Modern day United States.

I bought this book to read a few years ago but never put the time in to sit and read it, so the audio book it was..
I was first interested in this book because a few people have referenced it toward the modern-day United States.. which is very accurate after knowing this story... I highly recommend this book to anyone not happy with the current fanatical politically correct movement of this country...

A classic that I had to revisit.

The book is double plus good. Simon Prebble's performance added to drama and understanding of the world and world view that the author George Orwell describes.

Perhaps the Most Important Book Ever Written

Eric Blair and Aldous Huxley rejected the ancient plan to eternally enslave humanity. 1984 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Fabian Society of which they were both members. The realization of this plan is more apparent now than ever. From an international banking cartel seeking to demolish the current economic order; to a sea of unelected technocrats wishing to monitor everyone on earth. Investigate the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as it is the culmination of this global scientific dictatorship.

Read this book

I know many feel familiar with this work, it's almost a part of us. It's worth the read, you're not as familiar as you think if you haven't read it.
Shun all forms of orthodoxy. Do all the wrong-think. Say all the wrong-speak. Commit all the thought crimes.
Proles and animals are free after all so live it up!

Terrific book that conservatives don’t understand

Orwell fought for socialism. Boomers are stupid. Like all of Orwell’s work, the right hasn’t actually read it, and doesn’t understand they’re the object of his ire.
