Publisher's summary

It's been almost a year since 18-year-old Ella Rodriguez was in a car accident that left her crippled, scarred, and without a mother. After a very difficult recovery, she's been uprooted across the country and forced into the custody of a father that abandoned her when she was a young child. If Ella wants to escape her father's home, and her awful new stepfamily, she must convince her doctors that she's capable, both physically and emotionally, of living on her own. The problem is, she's not ready yet. The only way she can think of to start healing is by reconnecting with the one person left in the world who's ever meant anything to her-her anonymous Internet best friend, Cinder.

Hollywood sensation Brian Oliver has a reputation for being trouble. There's major buzz around his performance in his upcoming film The Druid Prince, but his management team says he won't make the transition from teen heartthrob to serious A-list actor unless he can prove he's left his wild days behind and become a mature adult.

In order to douse the flames on Brian's bad-boy reputation, his management stages a fake engagement for him to his co-star Kaylee. Brian isn't thrilled with the arrangement - or his fake fiancée - but decides he'll suffer through it if it means he'll get an Oscar nomination. Then a surprise email from an old Internet friend changes everything.

Better than expected!

What made the experience of listening to Cinder & Ella the most enjoyable?

The characters were very well developed and kind.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I LOVED this book. When I first bought it, I thought it might be too young for me based on the title, but once the story began, I was captivated the entire time. I wish there were more books on audible written by the author!

Love, love, looooved it!

So sweet of a story line. A clean and fresh romance. I aches for Ella and the pain she suffered both physically and emotionally. Cinder aka Brian was a heartthrob! He was nothing but a sweet prince for sure!

Great combo of book and narrating!

I absolutely loved this book when I read it the first time. And the narrating was perfect with the audio book version! Completely recommend, but beware crying and driving! 😉

This YA retelling is worth the look & listen

Any additional comments?
A well done YA re-telling of the Cinderella story. This is a nice break from all the gloom & doom, depressing, Dystopian YA fiction that is all the rage. While it's on the sweeter fair, it certainly isn't all cookies & sugar plums. There was a bullying scene that was a prime example how horrific some people can be.

While some may complain that the characters were one dimensional, either too good to be true or excessively mean/cruel, remember it is based on a 'fairy tale'. All fairy tale characters either represent good or evil. However, I didn't find that with the characters. I enjoyed how the author gave each of the familiar players elements of their "traditional" personality traits, yet changed them up enough to make them interestingly apropos for the modern setting. For example, Ella, while pretty, had physical scars from an accident that didn't make her the 'picture perfect' beauty. The step-sisters weren't ugly but drop-dead gorgeous & while mean, conflicted how each felt & treated Ella. The step-mother wasn't all wicked, the father, while loving, was very flawed. The 'prince'....well it wouldn't be a fairy tale if he wasn't everything a girl could want.

I would recommend this story. It has some great lessons on those with disabilities, bullying, true love & friendship, truth vs lies, how the media--both social & mainstream have too much influence over our young, etc. I believe teen & tween girls will enjoy this light-hearted romance that also has something else to offer.

I found the narrator exceptional for this particular venue. She did a good job with characterization; and it was accomplished more with tonal inflection, pitch, & intensity, rather than trying to 'create' different voices. Even the main male character wasn't a distraction.
