Publisher's summary

Everyone's favorite flying car shifts into another dimension as the intrepid Tooting family zooms back and forth through time.

When the Tootings return to Zobrowski Terrace at the end of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, they find that home is looking a lot like Jurassic Park. But this is no theme park - a very real and very hungry Tyrannosaurus rex is charging them! Thanks to Dad inadvertently yanking Chitty's "Chronojuster" lever, the spirited car has flown them back to prehistoric times, where the family - and especially Baby Harry - has a narrow escape. But Chitty has a mind of her own, and theTootings will get an unexpected tour of exciting times and places from Prohibition-era New York, where Chitty wants to compete in the famous Prix d'Esmerelda's Birthday Cake race, to the lost city of El Dorado and back again, with misadventures and surprise stowaways along the way. Get ready for a hilarious high-flying adventure, with celebrated author Frank Cottrell Boyce behind the wheel.

A hit for the family

Both kids (9 and 6) loved it on a long ride, as did the adults - amusing, engaging, suspenseful and pretty cool.

Part two of the sequel

What made the experience of listening to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Race against Time the most enjoyable?

As I noted in my previous review of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, these three sequels should have been one long story rather than three shorter, incomplete ones.

What other book might you compare Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Race against Time to and why?

The other two sequels...Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Over The Moon. All three are part of the greater whole and don't stand individually nearly as well as they do as a single unit.

Which scene was your favorite?

Perhaps Chitty versus the T-Rex.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were some definite chuckles along the way.

Any additional comments?

If you plan on reading/listening to this book, plan on also reading/listening to the other two so that it can make more sense.

David Tennant is an amazing performer.

This second Chitty sequel was fun, but Tennant's reading elevated it to magical. My children (1st through 6th grade) loved it and I enjoyed it too.

An Exciting Series of Time Conundrums

So much of what confused me in the second book makes much better sense now. Very delightful story that neatly ties up the two time periods the books have essentially been written in, while creating quite the exciting bit of time travel all on its own.

I love it 🥰

I love it because it’s really fun to listen to. There’s so many twists and turns, but you have to read the whole series to make it make sense overall, I think this is one of my favorite audiobooks.

An absolute and unexpected delight!

I listened to this story with my 7 year old son as I decorated cookies and he played with Legos. I thought that this would be similar to the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and while it did have it's similarities, it also was very different. A very well written story that kept us captivated the entire time!

Charming children’s book

Love the narration. Not sure what age group aimed at. (I’m 76 and entertained). Looking for something for 4-6. I decided it was probably better for maybe 6-12.

Not Great

If you thought the second book was rough, this one is worse. David Tennant is great except for his voice for Red. That character boiled my blood for some reason. The story was very stupid except for the New York part.
