Publisher's summary

The revised story of Checkmate is the first in The White House National Security Series and features young scientist Dr. Cameron Talbot who invents a breakthrough technology to defend against cruise missiles. She needs support from skeptical company officers, funding from a reluctant Congress, and help from Lt. Col. Hunt Daniels, detailed to The White House NSC. With disaster brewing overseas, threats to New Delhi, the Taj Mahal, and to Cameron herself, she and Hunt find themselves enmeshed in terrorist plots and political wrangling at the highest levels.

Not as good as Trust But Verify

This is the second book I've read by this author and I found myself rolling my eyes at times. There are some good ideas and moments, but overall, it wasn't so great. The lead character goes through a lot, getting no sleep, so is on the verge of hysterics often, but is described as cool and calm. The main love relationship I was hoping to go another way. It may be awhile before I read Book 2 in this series.
