A mother's worst fear

Charlene Hubbard wanted the dream - a loving husband, a fulfilling career, and a few kids. When it looked like she’d have to settle for two out of three, God dropped a child into her empty arms. For 15 years Charley kept the secret of that adoption close, fearful that the truth would make her less of a mother in the eyes of the child she loves.

A child's worst nightmare

Kinsley Hubbard has lived her whole life under the shadow of a secret. The shadow dissipated in the harsh light of truth the day she opened an Instagram message from a new friend. "You’re adopted. Ask your mother about her old college friend". What are you supposed to do once you find out your whole life has been a lie?

Caught in the middle

Fifteen years ago, Melissa Emmerson gave up her daughter with no intention of ever looking back. Now she needs a kidney, and she’s caught between an old friend and a husband determined to do whatever it takes to save her life even if it means destroying the family Melissa helped build.

Loved the story! Not the narrator

I have had this issue before with the lady narrating the book. It takes me about half to three-quarters of the story before I get used to her voice. It sounds very robotic. She is excellent at character voices but she just doesn't sound like she's interested in the story. As for the story, it is excellent! It's almost as if it was taking directly from someone's life. The storyline is very realistic and could happen to anyone. Adoption is never an easy issue and teen years are always hard. Sharon Srock has made this story believable, interesting, and gives each character such compassion. I want friends like Charley's! it always fascinates me how Sharon Srock takes a simple scripture and gives it such deep meaning within her story lines. Basically if we follow scripture, while our problems won't disappear they will certainly be easier to handle. Just listen to that small quiet voice of God. Sometimes we get so involved in the situation that we forget to sit back, be quiet and pray,

Beautiful

CHARLEY: Another well-written installment in this series of stand-alone stories, this one following a family that waited too long to let their teenager know she was adopted at birth - from a former friend who is now sick and whose husband desperately wants to help his wife, any way he can. I love listening to this narrator!

Emotional, but satisfying! Love this series!

I've been addicted to Sharon Srock's books ever since I read the Mercie Series. I love how she ties together women of the community - you feel like you know them personally! Charley's story kept me interested till the end! The situation was heart wrenching, but portrayed realistically, and with a finger pointed to God. All of Ms. Srock's are like that, yet not too heavy. The characters' faith carries them through the tough situations. I look forward to reading (and listening to) more of this series!

Loved It

I enjoyed this next book in the Sisters series. Charley has kept her daughter's adoption a secret, but all of a sudden the truth comes out and she finds herself trying to come to terms with the situation that revealed the truth. She has to learn to depend on her husband and friends as well as God to work come to terms with what needs to be done. I don't know if I could do what she did.
I also liked the narrator. I could tell what character was speaking due to the tone of her voice.

Great

A story that grasp at your heartstrings. A dilemma that has no quick or easy solution. With faith and a lot of prayer, with family and friends to help is the only way. Taking baby steps hoping it will the right ones, and secrets that had been hidden will bring a joy now.
