Publisher's summary

“A Doc Ford novel has more slick moves than a snake in the mangroves. In Captiva, Randy Wayne White takes us places that no other Florida mystery writer could hope to find.”—Carl Hiaasen

Randy Wayne White is acclaimed as "wildly inventive" (The San Diego Union-Tribune), "a wonderful writer" (Paul Theroux), "a fine storyteller" (Peter Matthiessen), and "the rightful heir to John D. MacDonald" (The Tampa Tribune-Times). Now he delivers a wicked thriller that sends government agent-turned-marine biologist Doc Ford into dangerous new waters, as a Florida fishing dispute escalates into a deadly war that reaches across the ocean...

Critic reviews

“The thriller Captiva is a lot like fishing...you are...caught!...One of the more dramatic finales in mystery fiction. White tells one whale of a story.”—Miami Herald

“An enticing brew of hard-drinking, thick-skulled anglers, plodding detectives, and plotting marina bosses. White knows a thing or two about friendship, love, and honor. He also knows it’s possible for neighbors who share the same small island to appreciate and understand each other so little.”—Entertainment Weekly

“Edginess is what sets White’s work apart from the pack....A prickly, enigmatic hero...Ambience, compelling characters and straight forward suspense.”—San Francisco Chronicle

Enjoyable

Nice story with characters you don't run into very often in the books you read. George Guidall was superb as always. It was well worth the credit.

another good story

Randy Wayne White continues to weave the great tale. he includes elements of Florida history that most people don't know and this particular book about net fisherman and the conflict between them and sports fisherman. he brings to light some interesting backwoods characters the continue to make his novels both entertaining and educational. he has enough plot twists to keep you guessing. the audio performance is good and it's different than reading it helps you really feel the story in a different way.

Another great Doc Ford novel@

Great story. Excellent characters. George Guidall's performance in narration is spot on as usual.

Excellent Listen!

Great Author!

I miss Dick Hill from the first three novels: I look for audio books where he's the performer. This guy narrating this novel is dry to listen to. Otherwise, the book is what you would expect from Mr. White. Very good!

Ardent Reader

George Guidall is a good narrator for some books but not this one. We need to go back to Dick Hill

Hannah

Huge RWW fan, but he confused me with this one. Great book as most always, but was thrown off a bit buy Doc Ford and Hannah Smith’s relationship. Do not want to throw out any spoilers, but here we are in 2018 and Ford is just meeting and becoming involved with Hannah Smith, yet in 2012-13-14 she was a guide and their relationship is far advanced. Won’t say more, but if anyone could enlighten me a bit or clear my ignorance I would truely appreciate.
Still another great RWW listen.
Thanks

Good story

Love Doc Ford. This is a good story, but the performer sounds too old as the doc Ford character

George and Doc, a winning combination.

George Guidall is always a excellent reader and Mr.White's Doc Ford series is addictive, well done all.

Good listen

Mr. White explains many of the social, political and economic peculiarities of Southwest Florida in a highly entertaining and accurate fashion. His characters are fun to get to know. My only problem with this iteration of the the Doc Ford saga is the narrator. In a first person narrative, the narrator literally speaks in the voice of the main character. . Mr. Guidall sounds too old to convincingly play the Doc Ford character. The narrator in the previous three Doc Ford novels was much more appropriate for the role.
