Publisher's summary

Eight years ago, Audrey MacLaren chose to marry her human lover. That decision marked her as an exile from the Dragon Kings, an ancient race of demons who were once worshiped as earthly gods. In the centuries since, as conception became increasingly difficult, their numbers have dwindled. Yet Audrey and her husband managed the impossible. Their son is the first natural-born Dragon King in a generation - which made him irresistible to the sadistic scientist whose technology makes demon procreation possible. In the year since her husband died failing to prevent their kidnapping, Audrey and her little boy have endured hideous experiments.

Leto Garnis is a Cage Warrior, the third in an illustrious line. Only through combat can Dragon Kings earn the privilege of conceiving children. Leto thrives on his status and expects a glorious death. Until that day, he uses his superhuman speed and reflexes to secure the right for his two sisters to start families. Shackled with collars that inhibit powers ranging from teleportation to control of the elements, demon combatants are only given free rein within the Cages. Matches staged between three cartel families are novel bloodsport among rich and powerful humans. After torture reveals Audrey’s astonishing pyrokenesis, she is separated from her son and sent to the Cages. If she survives a year, she will be reunited with him. Leto is charged with her training. Initially, he has no sympathy for her plight. But if natural conception is possible, what has he been fighting for? As enemies, sparring partners, lovers, and eventual allies, Leto and Audrey learn how little honor exists in their underground world.

an intense story with fierce lovers who battle each other and even tougher enemies. Robin Dane does a great job of bringing the story to life

Different from fantasy romances I've read recently

Would you listen to Caged Warrior again? Why?

I'd listen to it Caged Warrior again because it is so different from many of the fantasy/romance books I've read in quite a while

What did you like best about this story?

The Hero starts out brutalizing the Heroine - and the romantic stuff didn't happen quickly. The story builds around the characters letting the reader get to know them and their circumstances.

Any additional comments?

When starting off, I did not like Robin Dane as the narrator. Some of his voices were a bit grating to me. However, as the story unfolds, I got used to his voices.

Powerful and fierce story

I enjoyed listening to this story. The only problem I had was that several times a line was repeated after I heard a click. I assume that that was where the narration was edited. I believe there were three spots that need to be fixed.
This book is pretty intense. While there are no actual dragons or shifters, this book is paranormal. The "dragon Kings" are from five different families that have different powers and we're once thought of as gods. Now some are enslaved as cage fighters by human cartel and made to fight with each other in order to obtain things they most desire.
Leto fights inorder to help his sister get with child because for some reason the dragon Kings are having a hard time reproducing. The Aster family is the ones who are running the fights and who claims to have means to allow the dragon Kings to have children.
Audrey/Nynn had a child without help and with a human so her husband was killed, she was taken into a lab with her son and they were experimented on.
These two meet when Nynn's powers make an appearance and she is forced to fight in the cages. Leto is the one who was assigned to train her.
There are many powerful moments in this story. These fierce warriors do whatever they need to in order to help their family and to survive. I am glad that I stumbled onto this series.

Great narrator!

This is a wonderful story of just enough romance to really get you involved. The narrators voice is absolute perfection when it comes to this type of a book. More, Robin, more!
