Publisher's summary

The author of The Deep End of the Ocean, Oprah's first Book Club selection, delivers a compelling, emotionally charged tale of tragedy, revenge, and redemption.

Twelve-year-old Veronica Swan's idyllic life in a close-knit Mormon community is shattered when her two younger sisters are brutally murdered. Although her parents find the strength to forgive the deranged killer, Scott Early, Veronica cannot do the same. Years later, she sets out alone to avenge her sisters' deaths, dropping her identity and severing ties in the process. As she closes in on Early, Veronica will discover the true meaning of sin and compassion, before she makes a decision that will change her and her family's lives forever.

OK

I love Jacquelyn Mitchard and have read everything she has done. This book was OK, definitely not the best she has ever done, but the story does raise some interesting questions.

Okay Story

I will admit that the story was interesting, and I was captivated at times, but I was truly annoyed at the authors misinformation of the Mormon faith. She could have done much better in her research.

Better in time

I initially downloaded this book in June 2006 and remember enjoying it enormously. Lately I have been going back to re-listen to books that I remember enjoying. All told I have listened to Cage of Stars about 6 times. I love this book. There are so many themes and ideas that ring true for me. The idea that family is the most important thing in life and the true nature of forgiveness to name but two. Cage of Stars is truly a compelling and inspiring book. Much of my enjoyment comes from Jacquelyn Mitchard's words. However I can't imagine this book without Kathe Mazur's impeccable narration. A synergistic coupling if ever there was.

Mercy vs. Justice

Jacquelyn Mitchard captures the theme of revenge vs. forgiveness with a fresh approach. That she chose a young Mormon woman as her protagonist (rather than the usual- male) makes for a subtle and nuanced read. You'll be surprised, informed, entertained and satisfied with the results. I found this to be one of my favorites at audible. A great book club book.

Couldn't put it down

This book is so serene, and yet compelling. It deals with life's greatest subjects in such a... well, a sensible way. You'll learn a little about the Mormon religion, a lot about loving children and ethics. Highly recommended!

Powerful and Suspenseful

I found this book to be very suspenseful and quite powerful. It reads like a memoir, and the reader has a real grasp on how Ronnie felt and processed things. It is a very moving story, and covers Ronnie’s grief so beautifully. There were many passages that were quote worthy, and to be honest, they expressed exactly how I felt when dealing with grief in my own life. The reader also learns much about the modern day Mormon religion. It has been several hours since I read the book, and I still feel its deep pull and the power of the drama. This is an excellent read and very well written. The narrator is also wonderful.

not my style book

What would have made Cage of Stars better?

having a good plot. having better character development.

Has Cage of Stars turned you off from other books in this genre?

i am not sure what genre it fits into.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kathe Mazur’s performances?

if the story sounded good. i don't like her reading style in this book. but her voice is clear.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

i guess i wonder what the author was trying to say. was it a book that mormons would like?
why did the author write this book as something was missing from the story. maybe disappointment.
