Delivery: Weekly, Thursdays
(P) and ©2004 Shawn King
Shawn King's Your Mac Life (and its earlier incarnations) is one of the best audio discoveries I've made during the past six years. The show is not a how-to program, but an informative discussion of technology and cultural issues surrounding Apple and it's Macintosh and iPod platforms.
It's also playful and a lot of fun. I laugh out loud a lot of the time when listening to this group each week. Part of the show's charm is the ongoing banter and conversation of the cast, their interaction with the audience and the way they weave all of the best parts of the Internet into the whole.
I usually make myself wait to hear the archived show here at Audible, so as to maximize the value of my subscription - but it's REALLY hard not to tune into the live show's video feed, participate in the chat rooms, call the hotline or want to mail to the YML gang during each week's show. For those who miss the experience of the live show, the forums at yourmaclife.com are the next best thing.
YML has several contests each week and listeners can win some excellent swag on the program, or even by clicking through their web site. I've personally landed a tshirt and a free copy of Microsoft Office in the past. With a little luck, I'm hoping to score a cool product from Griffin Technology, one of the show's sponsors, in the future. (Or, if you're in the right place at the right time, you might find something spiffy that Shawn will ultimately lose during his travels.)
Congrats to Shawn and Leesa, who recently got engaged on the air. And thanks to Shawn, Sly, Jay, Peter, Leesa and Wally for the time they contribute so I can get my YML fix each week!
Shawn King delivers new, interviews, opinion and a healthy dose of downright sillyness each week for Macintosh afficionados. Along with Video Jay, Wally the sound guy and Sly, the listener is treated to fun, information, how-to's and much more. The show is an all-around great place to visit if you're at all interested in things Macintosh.
Great Show! Entertaining and HIGHLY informative. Shawn King being a Canadian doesn't even bother me too much (just kidding -- my mum is one, ayh? Ever hear of Medicine Hat?).
I have been a Mac owner for over a year now and have found this show to be very informative. The presenters are so obviously Mac lovers and this results in a fun, informative and interesting show.
This is a great show.
The best Mac Show out there and further more, one that's actually worth paying for.
My girlfriend, who is not at all 'tecky' listens too as it is pure entertainment.
It's relaxed atmosphere and format add to it's charm.
I really enjoy listening to this show because I operate a small business run on Macintoshes. For folks like me, who have no in-house "tech support," it's good to have a source of information about what new technologies might be of service -- and which ones would be a waste of money. I listen to YML, and I never get behind on what's new in the Mac world, and I never waste money on technology I don't need. These guys are smart, and they pull no punches. They tell it like it is, so I feel I can trust them. Moreover, they're pretty damned funny, too. I put this show on my iPod, and I listen to it while walking the dog. It takes me about six dog-walks to get through an entire show, but it sure makes picking up poop more enjoyable.
I love this show! I look forward to it anxiously each and every week! It's informative about everything Mac, and I learn something new each time I listen to it. I love that it's a good long show each week and it's packed with lots of great information. The hosts are wonderful and always entertaining! Keep them around, I love it!!!
After listening to YML for the last four weeks I have learned more about Apple, the Mac and Apple software than I had learned in the previous two years. The program is humorous, light, but filled with valuable information and interesting interviews.Shawn and his staff certainly know their subject well. Each show has turned me on to many useful websites and revealed things I didn't know about various Apple products.
