Publisher's summary

In 2013, Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt published 1.5 million words and made their full-time livings as indie authors. In Write. Publish. Repeat., they tell you how exactly how they did it: How they created over 15 independent franchises across 50+ published works, how they turned their art into a logical, sustainable business, and how any independent author can do the same to build a sustainable, profitable career with their writing. Write. Publish. Repeat. explains the current self-publishing landscape and covers the truths and myths about what it means to be an indie author now and in the foreseeable future. It explains how to create books your readers will love and will want to return to again and again. Write. Publish. Repeat. details expert methods for building story worlds, characters, and plots, understanding your market (right down to your ideal reader), using the best tools possible to capture your draft, and explains proven best practices for editing. The audiobook also discusses covers, titles, formatting, pricing, and publishing to multiple platforms, plus a bit on getting your books into print (and why that might not be a good idea!). But most importantly, Write. Publish. Repeat. details the psychology-driven marketing plan that Sean and Johnny built to shape their stories into "products" that readers couldn't help but be drawn into - thus almost automatically generating sales - and explores ways that smart, business-minded writers can do the same to future-proof their careers. This audiobook is not a formula with an easy path to follow. It is a guidebook that will help you build a successful indie publishing career, no matter what type of writer you are...so long as you're the type who's willing to do the work.

Incredible study in the self publishing strategy

This book is far more about the Business side thant the craft side and that's exactly what I was looking for. I found this priceless though I may be biased because the concept of "Book Funneling" as a marketing tool is what was always in my mind, and having a real world example of those who are successfully doing it is encouraging, they also give plenty of references on the best places to sell your book, pricing advice and references to other books on marketing your book post-production. This purchase was worth every penny, the narrator has a charm to him and was easy to listen to, that was just a bonus.

The Best Of It's Kind

What made the experience of listening to Write. Publish. Repeat. the most enjoyable?

The knowledge and experience of the writers is fantastic. There's a lot of "how to write" books out there. If you research the writers of those books, you'll find that, a lot of the time, the "how to write" books are the only books they've written. "Write. Publish. Repeat." is different because the authors make their living writing and publishing their fiction.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Write. Publish. Repeat.?

The part about marketing your work. Not only do they present great ideas to ad to your marketing efforts, but those ideas inspired other ideas of my own.

Which scene was your favorite?

It's non-fiction. There aren't "scenes". Unless you count the decoy wallet.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Write. Publish. Repeat.?

Where do I start? The book is jammed full of insight! Everyone will find things in this book that will motivate them and push them in the right direction. Whether you're trying to write your book or get it in front of readers, this book has you covered.

Any additional comments?

The writers of this book are so genuine. They don't flood you with things that are too good to be true. They are upfront and honest, teaching you how they've become successful and using their own experiences as examples. I bought the ebook when it came out. It's a big book, but I read it in two sittings. I was hooked! The day the audiobook came out, I bought it. I listen to it at work. It's so motivating, I can't wait for the workday to be over so I can get home and start writing. The first book of my series is out and I don't think that would be the case if it weren't for the work these guys do. If you're a writer looking to self-publish your work, this book is required reading!

MUST Read for Indie Authors

Before picking up, "Write. Publish. Repeat." I knew nothing of the authors. I bought the book because I was searching answers in my quest to make a living as an independent author.

After reading this book I don't have all the answers, but now I have a better understanding of what it will take in terms of effort, perseverance, and resilience to make a living wage as an independent author.

The thing is, it's not easy, and to their credit the authors never pretend it is. It is doable, and at least from a marketing and technology standpoint this book gives you some good pointers.

There are two areas where the audio falls short. The first, which Johnny and Sean admit themselves, is that the book doesn't teach you how to write fiction. It doesn't really teach you how to write. It just says write a lot of good fiction, find an audience, and sell them related books.

Of course, "Write. Publish. Repeat." does have some specific suggestions on how to do that.

The reason I gave the overall product four stars is because it's not meant to be read in one sitting. And if you're just listening it's hard to navigate and find the section of the book you need to listen to at any given moment. I had to buy the e-book to facilitate my navigation of the material.

It was well worth it and I recommend this book to anyone who wants to get serious about self-publishing.

Thank baby Jesus for this book.

I have been doing a lot of research on self publishing. This, by far, is the greatest resource so far. There is practical advice you can implement right away but the best part about this instructional book is that it is, at times, hilarious!

Excellent marketing book

I bought this book with the intention of using it as a marketing tool. The authors manage to convey a fantastic view of what the self-publishing landscape looks like. They are not presenting unreasonable, unrealistic, magic solutions. Their advice and suggestions are manageable and wholly within the reach of anyone wanting to self-publish.

It's what the book is suppose to be about.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would

Any additional comments?

The title promises to be about approaching writing from a business standpoint and that is exactly what it does. Would recommend for people who want to write for a business.

Ahead of their time

What did you love best about Write. Publish. Repeat.?

I loved the fact that they brought to my attention a very new perspective to being an author. They make self-publishing look cool.

What other book might you compare Write. Publish. Repeat. to and why?

There are no books out there that can be compared to this one. Maybe Stephen King On Writing but not really. This book is part how they arrived to their current writing lifestyle and part how to but with a very different flavor.

What does Simon Whistler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The accent? He did a great job and definitely doesn't lower the quality of the material.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Write. Publish. Repeat.?

I will Write. Publish. Repeat. I will also be mindful of funnels and CTA's which I had not clue about before this book.

Any additional comments?

If you want to get an idea of what life as a writer can be like and hints at ways that it will be like in the near future get this book. If you want to learn techniques that were used in the days of Charles Dickens which are still valid today and tomorrow. Get this book. Just get the book already!

Thorough (and long) A-Z guide

I liked this book and provided me good insights to write and publish my first book. My impression is that it's too long at some points given the explanations have a lot of background to make the message go through and be understood correctly.
