Publisher's summary

The most widely recognized business executive of all time asks the tough questions that America's leaders must address:

  • What is each of us giving back to our country?
  • Do we truly love democracy?
  • Are we too fat and satisfied for our own good?
  • Why is America addicted to oil?
  • Do we really care about our children's futures?
  • Who will save the middle class?

Lee Iacocca believes that leaders are made in times of crisis: such as today. He has known more leaders than almost anybody else, including nine U.S. presidents, many heads of state, CEOs of the nation's top corporations, celebrities, and even a pope, and is uniquely suited to share his wisdom, knowledge, and wit about the leadership of America. Lee Iacocca does not mince words, and in Where Have All the Leaders Gone? he offers his no-nonsense, straight-up assessments of the American politicians most likely to run for president in 2008. He also shares his lessons learned, and issues a call to action to summon Americans back to their roots of hard work, common sense, integrity, generosity, and optimism.

Where have all the leaders gone? Lee Iacocca has the answer.

    Critic reviews

"Iacocca rails against the lack of leadership in vital national concerns such as health care, open markets and energy policy....The book's strength lies in Iacocca's emotional honesty." (Publishers Weekly)
"Although Iacocca presents a brutal analysis of cronyism in Washington, D.C., the abysmal situation in Iraq, and failed policies at home, he is not a pessimist. With a reputation as a straight shooter, he hopes to inspire more young people to vote. This is a surprisingly outspoken take on the pressing need for real leadership in this country." (Booklist)

    Poignant and Relevant

Thankful that Mr Iacocca took the time to share his wisdom through this audiobook. I enjoyed listening to his voice instead of just reading his narrative in a book. Really adds to the experience, especially now that he’s no longer with us. Such a great American and iconic leader he was. You are missed, Lee!!

    Bush Bashing

I find Lee very un-informed and a Bush-hater. Lee is a very good business man, but ignorant of all of the facts in government and national security. Another Michael Moore.

    A big disappointment

A piece of useless dribble that had nothing to do with leadership and everything to do with ones left wing political opinion. I expected much more from Mr. Iacocca and I’m sorry to see that he lowered himself to join the ranks of Michael Moore, George Soros, Bill Maher and alike.

I feel sorry for Mr. Iacocca for the book contains the rants of a lunatic and not a well adjusted retired businessman.

What did he do to this guy?

I have been an admirer of Mr. Iacocca since he took the helm at Chrysler nearly a quarter century ago but this book seems to just be a bash Bush document. I am very suspicious when one doesn't find a single good quality in another. GW Bush must have done something to tick Lee off or something. There is a bunch of good analysis and advice I enjoyed but the overwhelming parts of the book were filled with nonsense and part-stories. He also did a good bit of bashing of Fox News! I was pretty disappointed.

    More Political then Business

Thought the book would be more helpful as a leader. The book could be better decribed as Iococa's views on politics.

    Lee has lost it!

I was a huge fan of Lee in the 70's and respected his opinions. I was looking forward to this book but was surprised to find that he has become a talking head for people like Michael Moore, John Kerry, John Murtha and Moveon.org. Very dissapointing.

    Not a leadership book

This book is not about leadership. Lee talks primarily about politics and about how successful he was. I was looking for some leadership lessons but got disappointed in the end.

    A lot of ranting

I’m a CEO in a company I founded 15 years ago, and an author myself on several leadership books. I have always admired Lee, and what he has accomplished as a CEO, but I found this book troubling. I was looking for a different perspective on leadership, not a political rant and bashing of the current administration. He keys in on specific individuals within the current administration for what he calls their failed leadership policies, and sites example after example—which may well be true, but I think its safe to say that that cold be said for any administration. Lee should have sterilized his political prejudices, and instead focused in on the success and or failings in a more generic way. If your goal is to educate, and want people to truly learn, you must keep their emotions in check—especially political ones. I felt that this was written more to lash out on what he thought was wrong with this administration, than on principles of leadership in general. I did enjoy listening to the passion in his voice, and his ideas he brought forth in several areas—when he wasn’t off on a tirade.

    Political Rant - Not Leadership

What a disappointment from a business leader who should have had much to offer to the business community. There are already enough books that rant against W. Some leaders offer insights to the next generation. This one comes across as a bitter has-been. Read Carly Fiorina about HP, Gerstner about IBM, Weill about Shearson et al.

the description should have warned me.

the description should have warned me what the book was about. I thought it would discuss more about leadership using recent events as illustrations but it started to feel like just Ranting.

I expected more from this book judging by the author.. I only got 15-20 minutes into it and
