"Good Book, in a Great Series. Perfect Performance."

The "What You Need to Know About:" Series is what "For Dummies" "Idiot's Guide" books should have been. All the introductory guidance to get you started, but none of the embarrassment, or insult.

This one on Project Management is a near perfect primer on the otherwise terribly complicated world of Project Management (try Googling it, you'll never know where to start). It is also a well rounded introduction to best practices. The references to additional resources are excellent, and are mentioned throughout where applicable.

Anyone who wants to become a project manager professionally, should start here, even if only to get cleared up on the jargon, and vernacular first. Anyone looking to actually get things done more effectively, by managing their own projects with less confusion in their lives, may need go no further than this book.

Colin Mace's delivery is superb. I could listen to his reading all day.

Would you consider the audio edition of What You Need to Know About: Project Management to be better than the print version?

No but it is easy to listen to except for references to external content.

What did you like best about this story?

Does a good job of covering the material without any real examples :)

What does Colin Mace bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    It has some personality

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Validation that people at my work know nothing about project management.

I enjoy reading fantasy, science fiction, and horror the most. To improve, I read about language, psychology, spirituality, and art. I read about computer science and business for professional reasons.

"Overall review or introduction to project manament"

A very short book outlining various subtopics in project management. Items such as planning, scheduling, negotiating, resources, contingencies, progress monitoring, and more are given brief explanations with advice. Although this isn't a comphrehensive solution to learning about project management, the definitions provided are a great start or review for anyone involved in any sort of formal projects. One of the things I liked was that the descriptions are viable for any type of project management, rather than only one standard or style. This was great, because the project standards I am used to are for software engineering, but this did give me a conception of how projects are managed elsewhere

Out of all the books I've read about Project Management this one seemed to stick to what has proven to work in the world without getting tied up in the symantics of process and compliance. Keep it simple s... that's what I was looking for.

"Need the attachments in a pdf to make this worthwh"
What did you like best about What You Need to Know About: Project Management? What did you like least?

Very crisp and to the point, with an entertaining narration. But, as my headline states, without the attachments/internal references, there's a big gap.

What about Colin Mace’s performance did you like?

He has an engaging tone and inflection, I would enjoy him as a professor.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Business book, not really applicable.

    Any additional comments?

Of all the project management books I have listened to/read to date, this one is the best mix of strategica and tactical. Very thought provoking, and actionable information.

    "Informative and interesting"

This book is an absolute godsend if, like me, you've found yourself landed with a project management role and nobody can tell you what exactly that entails.

From start to finish, this book details the precise steps to take to ensure your project success. Using simple examples of successes and failures and the many things that can go wrong, as well as providing plenty of recommended reading and useful websites for anyone looking to do further research, the author provides the skills and processes which help keep projects on track - and keep the project-manager from having a breakdown.

The narrative is clear and concise and the audio-narrator is articulate and clearly comfortable with the subject matter.

This is a book I would recommend to friends and colleagues without hesitation and I will revisit it on many occasions.

    A must buy!

    "Systematic and organised"

    Very useful tool.
This is the first book I've bought on Project Management, and it is in my opinion that it should be everyones.
It lays the foundations for you to arrange any other more 'industry specific' project management books atop. Its not claiming to give the ins and outs of all industries, but it does give you a more than 'common sense' approach which is transferrable.
Without the structure and directions in this book you may well end up chasing your tail as a project manager!
I am busy drumming this into myself at present, as I want it to be the basis of how I orgsanise my thinking prior to undertaking any major tasks.
    Hats off to Fergus O'Connell

"It is what you need to know"

I am not a project manager but have managed many projects and have scars and trophies to show. I have read several project management books and attended one day training courses. This book is thoughtfully and clearly presented and I would have thought a must for all but experienced project managers.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book in one sitting and again chapter by chapter taking notes and applying them to my own project plans. I am by no means an expert project manager but have sufficient experience to know that my skills will improve by acting on the content of the book.

    Any additional comments?

It is a good source of further recommended readings and a good way to learn project management vocabulary

    "Brilliant"

I am an experienced project manager with all the usual certifications behind my name, but still decided to give this book a try for my car journeys. WOW - what a surprise! Colin is a great narrator and Fergus has written a brilliant and simple guide to project management. I wish I had read this book when starting out as a PM. This book definitely does what it says on the tin.

Great read which I am going to listen to again. Highly recommended.
