Interesting, SLOW narration and very dry

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator. He was so generic and flat it was difficult to maintain interest. I ended up listening at 2x speed. The topic was sometimes dry and a little hard to follow - but at least the author attempted to make a few asides or crack a joke or two, but none of that came across in the performance.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

No much of a reliance on the PDF file to describe or demonstrate the content. Maybe this wasn't the right kind of book for an audiobook.

What didn’t you like about Paul Costanzo’s performance?

It was flat, monotone and lacking in any sort of real inflection. It made it difficult to maintain my interest in the book. He could have just as easily been discussing the merits of diesel engines. I've heard more interesting performances on commercials for mutual funds.

Could you see What Every BODY Is Saying being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Maybe a corporate training video starring an insurance salesman.

Any additional comments?

Good book for the content, but prepare for a slog through the narration.

Good if you like the subject

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If a friend was interested in the subject, I would recommend the book based on the authors experience and knowlege of the subject. However the book references diagrams not provided in the audio version.

Get great insight with minimum fluff

If you could sum up What Every BODY Is Saying in three words, what would they be?

Know thy interactions.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a very informative book. Navarro is a retired FBI agent with a great deal of experience in the art of reading people. What I liked most was his attention to the methods for reading people in contrast to telling many stories from his career. Too often in books like this are short on information and long on memories. This is not the case for this excellent work of non-fiction.

What about Paul Costanzo’s performance did you like?

Paul's reading was very clear and articulate. However, you could have picked up the tempo of the reading.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I would say 70% of the material in this book surprised me. My expectations of what was offered were surpassed because the information was clearly field tested and so different from what I would have guessed.

Any additional comments?

I recommend reading this if you want to learn more about human gestures and what they generally mean.

Great content!

Would you consider the audio edition of What Every BODY Is Saying to be better than the print version?

It is nice to see the figures while the speaker is reading. But it was not a necessity for me. A PDF file with all the figures accompanies the audio program. I looked at the figures after I finished the book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of What Every BODY Is Saying?

look at people's feet for the truth

What did you learn from What Every BODY Is Saying that you would use in your daily life?

that I need to listen to it again and practice daily

Any additional comments?

great content and I will be listening to it again this year and possibly once per year until I am practicing it all the time

Interesting trivia-but reader... meh

What did you like best about What Every BODY Is Saying? What did you like least?

Pretty interesting, but I may feel less positive had it not been on sale. Reader reminded me of 1960s-era educational filmstrip narrator. Not at all conversational.

If you’ve listened to books by Joe Navarro and Marvin Karlins before, how does this one compare?

n/a

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Paul Costanzo?

Pretty much anybody with a more natural/conversational style.

What did you take away from What Every BODY Is Saying that you can apply to your work?

Many interesting bits of trivia. Might matter more to people in HR, sales, poker players, etc.

Any additional comments?

I found myself taking a lot of it with a grain of salt. For example the part about what legs/sitting positions suggest. I'm extremely short, and many of the behaviors described,in my case, mean nothing more than trying to get comfortable in chairs designed for taller folks! To the author's credit, he stresses that there are always exceptions.

Couldn't keep interest

Would you try another book from Joe Navarro and Marvin Karlins and/or Paul Costanzo?

Not right now

What do you think your next listen will be?

Mystery.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

It wasn't the narrator. The topic got boggy, and couldn't keep me from thinking about how I hate the gym, where I listen to these things. Major barometer for an audio book, that is, is it good enough to not let me think where I am and how I'd prefer to be eating bon-bons.

Could you see What Every BODY Is Saying being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

Something we already know

I feel like I just need to finish the book after realizing and confirming that I am pretty much knowledgeable on how to read bodies even without reading this book. It caused me to be suspicious of people instead of being present. One thing I realize too is that one should never stop investigating and looking and to never conclude completely until one has all the knowledge of the person being observed. I feel like while listening to it that I ask myself if this is worth my time since nothing significantly new is being learned. However, I’ll listen to it again possibly in the future when I get curious about it again. But for the time being I will depend on my own knowingness when I read people.

Easy to read and understand

I really enjoyed the career stories used to illustrate what the author was saying. The example photos were also a big help. Very well put together.

An Honest Take On Body Language

I really like how Mr. Navarro does not try to lie to you and tell you this is effective all the time. as he clearly explains, recognizing deception is pretty much a coin flip. it is nice to be able to recognize when someone you are speaking with might be uncomfortable or stressed.

Some good info, but, kinda braggadocious

This book reads like a sales pitch for a time share, at times. There is some good info here, but the author should stress more often than he does that a person's observable discomfort does not mean the person is up to no good. I just want some good, interesting and scientific info, not a book purpoting to teach me how to "mindread."
