Instructive as it is innovative, Unlabel will empower you to channel your creativity, find the courage to defy convention, and summon the confidence to act and compete in any environment. This blueprint will teach you how to grow both creatively and commercially by testing your personal brand against the principles of the Authenticity Formula. Marc Eckō shares the bruising mistakes and remarkable triumphs that reveal the truth behind his success, growing from a misfit kid airbrushing T-shirts in his parents' garage to the bold creator of two hugely successful branded platforms: Eckō Unltd. and Complex Media. As Eckō explains, it's not enough to simply merge your inner artist with business savvy—you must understand the anatomy of a brand, starting with its authentic spine.
With Unlabel, you will learn how to discover your own voice by overcoming fear and taking action, what it means to deliver on your promises, why failure is essential, how to understand how your product or service makes people feel, and how to recognize if your nostalgia for the past is hampering your ability to envision your future.
Unlabel is a bold and honest approach to building an authentic personal brand and growing a bootstrap start-up into a sustainable business.

I don't own the print version so I can't say but I certainly plan on buying it because I do want the visuals to go with the story.
There are SO many memorable moments from the book. But the main point that stands out to me is that he leaves so much open for interpretation. I believe business owners from any field can listen to this and learn from the mistakes that Marc made.
I absolutely LOVE that Marc is a narrator of this book. But being that it's theme is authenticity, it makes perfect sense. The way he reenacts the conversations brings so much clarity and emotion to the story...that would be missing if it were narrated by anyone other than him.
A Cautionary Tale
LOVE this book. I highly recommend it to any and all business owners, regardless of the success (or failure) they've achieved. Everyone can learn something from this book. Marc is so open and honest about the pitfalls of starting a business from the ground up. I've read a lot of "self help" books and this is THE most honest I've ever heard a business owner be about their journey. This is not a "feel good...if I can do it you can, too" book. This book will force you to evaluate if you really have what it takes to make it as an entrepreneur.

The content, the authenticity as I mentioned above. In my twitter post I said that after finishing the audiobook, my take away was that this was authentic, gritty, thought provoking, reality based, no fluff read/listen that I could listen to again easily. The narration was very good. Easy to listen to and very believable.
That while Marc, like all of us have had our challenges in our respective businesses, that we do not comprimise ourselves, that we remain authentic to who we are. That we be "unlabeled".
Marc of course, though Seth seemed quite a character in and of himself. I think he would be an interesting individual to meet.
That when the "great recession hit" Marc's company was hit, like everyone else, but, they pushed through and made it and learned a lot of valuable lessons both personally and professionally.
I believe if you are contemplating running your own business, or even in a business, like myself for some time, it is a valuable read/listen!
In my search for the perfect business venture, I've read book after book by authors like Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump. This was the first book I've read that talks about the bare bones of building a business. It takes off all of the fluff, and throws reality in your face. It made me realize that I have no desire to be in a position of such power. I'm more like Marc's twin sister, Marci. I'd be the voice of reason and keep the business organized, rather than being the person with the billion dollar ideas and having to face the gatekeepers.
One of the most memorable moments for me was when Marc showed up to a business meeting high on marijuana, and Seth had to make him realize whose lives he was jeopardizing because of that decision. Marc is honest and wears his mistakes likes badges of honor. After all, we are all who we are because of our experiences. Changing it would change the course of history. What's important, is what we learn from those mistakes.
I loved all the characters. Everyone was real, and I can appreciate what each has gone through.
I downloaded this book out of laziness and curiosity. It showed up on a "you might like these" list. I was pleasantly surprised and found myself wanting to listen on weekends, instead of just during my commute. I had never heard of Marc Ecko or the Rhino or Ecko unlimited, but now I feel like I know a bit about all of these. Thanks for sharing your story Marc!!! - from a Southern California mom, wife, and employee who's learning how to find her creative self in this world.
