Publisher's summary

Discover a fresh perspective on the art of leading in Dr. Kevin Leman's story about a young reporter who lands the meeting of a lifetime and walks away with the keys to exceptional leadership. The Way of the Shepherd points you beyond dated trends and out-of-touch management techniques to the strategies that will make you a truly outstanding leader.

When William Pentak had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interview Ted McBride, one of the most respected CEOs in America, he was shocked by what McBride was willing to share. McBride taught him the seven secrets he inherited long ago from his mentor - an eccentric but brilliant professor who passed on these time-tested management principles that, while ancient in their origin, are still applicable in today's fast-paced, high-tech world.

Throughout The Way of the Shepherd, you'll learn how to infuse your work with meaning, no matter your role, title, industry, or the size of your team. Uncover the tried-and-true best practices for how to engage, energize, and ignite your workforce by:

  • Getting to know your team, one person at a time
  • Relentlessly communicating your values and your mission
  • Defining the cause for your people and showing them where they fit in
  • Having a heart for the people that you're leading
  • Understanding that great leadership isn't just professional, it's personal

If you're ready to transform your team, create a culture of belonging, and truly learn to lead by example, it's time to discover The Way of the Shepherd.

Awesome yet simple

As someone who has been out of management for a couple of years I picked up this book in hopes to remind myself of basic management principles. Instead not only was I reminded of things I had forgotten I also learned a lot of new material. The way the story is read, the fact that it's an actual story and not just a set of instructions makes listening much easier and learning a lot more fun. would recommend this book to anyone in management.

The concepts just stay in my head

This book really packs a punch. The concepts make so much sense. Even now when dealing with people, pictures painted in this book pop into my remembrance which helps me deal with the situation.

I highly recommend this book for business and church (and any) leader.

An Incredible Message

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - Here is why - this teaching is profound. It gives examples of handling people in a way I have never been taught. It also teaches that a leader has a lot of responsibility but provides a very proven path to leading people well. Also, from a Christian perspective, it gives an idea of how God looks at us. Every person so far, who I have been teaching about this or given books away on shepherding has reported that they have gained in life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite Character was Dr. Neuman. He is the man that taught Ted McBride, the man who wanted to have this book written so others could get the benefits and the great life he enjoyed. Mr. McBride worked his way up through the ranks and moved into the helm of a fortune 50 company with the highest retention rate of the all the fortune 50 companies. The reason was, he lead his people like a very good shepherd leads his sheep and Dr. Neuman taught him.

What does Marc Cashman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Marc, has a good voice and seems to appreciate what he is reading. This helps us to absorb the teaching. I rarely want to master a topic, but this book being read to me has me wanting to become a professional in leadership, not just for my own benefit, but to give the best experience to others who I lead.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, only because I am not that way. I limit my time and listen when it fits.

Any additional comments?

There are only a few books I have read in my life that are must reads to me and this is one of them. I have a successful business and I am also a Pastor. My application is a bit different than many but when I gave a similar book away to different people going through hard times, all reported they got a better understanding of who God was. On another side to this book, it presents a message that lies hidden in it about who Jesus, the good shepherd is and what he has to offer our souls. My entire life on that plane alone has been changed. Hard ship no longer hurts like it used to. All of my people in church are seeing life in an improved way. My customers and friends who were hurting all reported gaining in perspective on their hard time and got comfort seeing God in a better way towards them. I noticed one lady in particular became a lot more settled in life. For today this is the best I can share.

Really Great Book on how to manage people

Would you listen to The Way of the Shepherd again? Why?

The book uses analogies of a sheep herder that can be easily applied to all management situations and personalities on any team. I must read for any manager/leader.

Great book

It really helped me see what my true role as a leader is to look like. Just because I’m the boss doesn’t mean I quit caring for those I’m supposed to lead. I had a little bit of a understanding of what a shepherd was about, but this book really brought to light every aspect. And also stirred up inside of me a desire to be a true godly leader.

Thanks.

Absolutely MAGNIFICENT!

Hands down the best, most enlightening book I've ever encountered! Not only did I learn the way of the shepherd, it was remarkably well written and entertaining. I was so impressed that I decided to write the first book review I've ever written.
